I plan to drive across northern Africa with a friend. We will buy a jeep in Spain and get the boat to Algeria, then drive through Tunisia, Libya, Egypt and onwards. Has anyone ever made this journey and and have any advice? Should I get visa's before I leave or can I get them on at boarders...any do's or dont's... etc

there are terrorist attacks in algeria all the time. I have plenty of Algerian friends and they say it's too dangerous to travel alone for a foreigner inside of algeria. there is a relatively safe tourist trail which can be followed, but in a car off the beaten tracks not a good idea. It's a shame because it apparently is an absolutely beautiful country

Algeria has never been the safest place for foreigners.

Watch what you drink! Water is not always up to the highest standards of purity, including ice cubes made with water, or things washed with water like salads and other uncooked foods.
