My d200 has been playing up on me, probably something very small but since i dont have it long I havent figured it out.

I use manual setting, I like to choose exactly the shot I take and I cant blame the camera for any bad pics then. Prob is the camera is going auto on me even in manual and changing shutter speed and apereture. This is driving me insane and I have reset to factory settings a couple of times.

I have a wedding on Friday and cannot have this happening then. HELP please I need to figure out what is causing this:(

have you set something weird on ISO sensitivity? I don't have a d200 but there's a setting on the 300 that can change things unexpectedly.

    If you're really stuck I have a d70 body lying round ...

No, it happens every couple of weeks, I should be ok as it generally stays within a certain amount and doesnt give too bad a sho, when I had my big gig night there were a few shots that would have been better if it had of stayed. If I restore factory and watch from there on maybe take note what changes I make I might figure it out.

Just hoping someone may have come across the issue and have an idea on what it is.

More irritating than naything else when you actually can blame the camera for not taking the shot you wanted.

The D200 can remain in Auto ISO mode even in manual.

It stopped when I upgraded the firmware but was not documented as a fix.

Check you didn't accidentally set it on bracketing mode, with 1 under, 1 over etc.... I had a panic shooting one night with flash set up that after every shot the shutter would double or half....and it was always the same...so i realised I'd accdientally put it on bracketing with 3 shots, 1 under, 1 over. Could be the same thing?

Pete you may have hit the nail on the head there, I haven't figured out bracketing yet but that may be it. I will return hopefully with a fixed camera;)

not the bracketing, so whats the firmware thimble?

You should be able to find out what firmware version is on the camera through its menus. Compare that to what's available from Nikon's site. If there's a newer release on the site, download it and install it on the camera - the site should give full instructions.

    D200 Firmware Update

    and the ever important instructions

Note that your problem is not documented as a fix but it did stop it occurring on mine, though I am not suggesting it will fix your problem.

ok guys all of a sudden it has gone back to normality, I pressed the flash +/- button and changed it and wahey, I dont think this was the cure though as it was srt at +5 and when I go back to +5 it is still ok.

So drama temporarily over but I have a feeling it may happen again so if anyone has any thought please let me know.

I haven't seen it mentioned so far (but I may just have missed it). To enable/disable Auto ISO go to Custom Settings > Metering/Exposure > ISO Auto and select either On or Off. If you select On, it'll allow you to set the Max Sensitivity up to 1600 and the minimum shutter speed (only for Aperture or Shutter Priority I believe).

You may want to download this spreadsheet from Nikonians. It gives you settings for the different banks on the D200, which you can of course customise for your own use, but is very useful for different shooting conditions.

Thanks leo, looks quite comprehensive. I will have a look through it later when house is queit.

I guess it may have been iso auto although I would never selct auto it may have happened accidentally and been wiped away when I rest the menus. I will keep an eye out for it though next time problem occurs (hopefully never).
