    Hi all,

Does anyone know what salary a Financial controller/HR manager should be on in a small business?

It varies. Are you a fully qualified accountant? How many people work for the company?

Hi I'm part qualified. I have about a year to do. I have a qualification in HR that I started when I took the job and I put the accountancy 1 on hold till I got that.

I would expect a medium size company to pay around 70 - 80k for a financial controller (with some HR tasks), so for a small company I'm guessing it would be around the 50k mark.

As you are part-qualified, and it's been a while since I worked in this area, it is hard to say for sure.

I'm not sure how a company can have a part qualified financial controller!?!

A part qualified accountant I can understand, but a financial controller should have experience...

Also, looking at the circumstances: small company, doesn't want to hire a fully qualified FC, getting a part qualified person to fill the roll. I would say you would be lucky to be offered €30k.

    IMO

I used to be a part-qualified financial controller myself. :)

It's actually a really easy job. There are so many rules you have to follow that it is sort of a paint-by-numbers job...

There is no such thing as a partly qualified Finacial Controller. You may be studying Accountancy and call yourself a partly qualified Accountant but not Financial Controller. This term is used to cover many duties and the salary would be commensurate with those duties. Likewise with HR management. It depends on the duities. For a company of 27 employees (I think that's what you said elsewhere) I'd not expect you to get more than the low €30k.
Talk of €80k for a "medium" sized company (whatever that is) is crazy unless you have a full accountancy qualifaication. To be a Financial Controller in any decent size of a company and still have some HR tasks does not make sense. Two specialist positions with two clearly defined roles and two salary scales.
Don't confuse "finianial controller" the way some shop assisitants think they are "Retail Managers".
Chasing Debtors, holding out on creditors, paying bills etc for 20-30 employee companies expect €30,000 p.a.
If your HR qualifiaction is a level 7 or higher you could expect more than €30k but anything less will pay less.

There is. :) I used to be one for a large recruitment company.

My job title was "Financial Controller" and I did the job of a financial controller.

To be a Financial Controller in any decent size of a company and still have some HR tasks does not make sense.

Lots of companies work that way, for example, the multi-national where I work now.

    Hi AARRRGH,

I didn't say you weren't a Financial Controller; I was saying you can't be a partly qualified one. You can certainly be a Finacial Controller who is currently studying Accountancy or Business but you are not a partly qualified Financial Controller you are a Financial Controller. That's all. :)

And sorry but a multi-national should not have a Financial Controller with HRM tasks. At the very least the Finance Director would have a liason role with HR and could fulfil some of the duties but a Financial Controller should not. If you call an input into recruitment of Finance/Clerical staff a HR task then fine but that's very limited.

have a look at the salary surveys of some of the recruitment websites to give you a good idea

this is the brightwater one which i think is quite good.(we use to set benchmarks in our firm0
you could take 50% of the salary of a HR generalist and 50% of part qualified you will end up with a figure arounf 42k.
Also have a look at the Acca site
end of the day you can not get away from the fact that the little peice of paper you get after you pass the finals is worth about 15k
