Night Training - Head lights?

I'm not really a morning person at all I have to admit, so my training will be after work in the evenings. Now obviously for the next few months that's going to involve running in the dark, a lot.
I live in the sticks and I get scared in the dark (of eh..twisting my ankle) and was wondering if anyone here has recommendations for head lights which put out a silly amount of lumen's?

Try wiggle.co.uk, they have a decent selection.

...and then close one eye whenever a car approaches as well so that you can still see out of that eye once the car has gone past.

A quick look on google seems to indicate that this Petzl Myo XP Head Torch should do the trick.

Anyone here use one, or have any comment on them?

TK Max in Swords had head lamps for 7.99 last week. There was another type as well, a bit more expensive. I bought the 7.99 one, and it has a few different settings including flashing. The light is strong enough to be seen, and to see a short distance in front of you. Though I think because it uses LEDs, it's not going to be as bright as other lights, but it's ok for what I want.

I've seen a lot of people out with flashing red armband lights and they seem really good in tyerms of cars seeing you a good bit off...and also other runners not suddenly getting a shock when someone appears out of nowhere in front of you in the dark.

I've a petzl... not the model pictured, but one which has a combination of led bulbs and a bigger bulb and it does the trick nicely. Cost c. 30 euro if I remember rightly from 53 Degrees North Carrickmines.

You can get these in Aldi (if there are any left) for €5.99 for four - a bargain. The red leds can flash or stay on constantly.

I second the Aldi lights. They are great value. I was in lifestyle sports and there were selling the Adidas brand of the ligts and they were €15, WHICH IS A COMPLETE RIP OFF

In the end I bought this Zebralight H60 Headlamp

It seems to get really good reviews and at 100 grams seems pretty light too.
I'll report on how it works once I've given it a trial runout.

I used to have a Tikka Petzl Plus for the last three years which worked great and weighed next to nothing. Unfortunately it eventually developed a crack and with the Kerry rain that was the end of it a short while later. It had 4 LEDs, which gave plenty of light.

I got a cheaper one as a replacement for about €20. It's definitely heavier, but it does the trick just as much. It doesn't seem to be any brighter than my old one despite sporting 8 LEDs.

Mind, I still wear a reflective jacket as well. Better be safe than sorry.
