I was keenly watching the last thread before it was closed.
I have my learner's permit and I am insured on the car I will be using.

Other than the Phoenix Park are there any relatively quiet ares in Dublin for an accompanied beginner to practice their driving skills and build confidence before being thrown into the busier areas of the city. I don't underestimate the importance of driving lessons, but I'd like to practice in the days between them until I have a good few hours driving experience under my belt.

What about industrial estates? Usually quiet especially at the weekends and lots of turns and junctions to practice on...

    Good luck

The South Bank Road in Dublin 4 is non-residential, long, wide and quiet at the weekends.

Many Industrial Estates are private property.

Apologies for closing the last thread, i assumed by a "friends" car, you meant just having a go without being insured.

To be honest, it would be best for you to practice in traffic, I know it is nerve wracking but it is the best practice. I was the same but the more I was brought out in traffic the better I got.

Go out at different times so you can experience different levels of traffic.

If the OP hasn't yet mastered the basics of control, steering etc, not much point in going out into traffic. It's not a bad idea to start out in a quiet place to practice steering manuevres, gears and so on for a bit.

I'd agree, just start off somewhere quite for the first day till you master your stop, start, slow moving, gear change & hill starts, traffic will be no problem then. Cherry Orchard Industrial estate might be handy cos you can do all that in there & then move out to the road & back into the industrial estate if you get a bit nervous.
