oil burner- whats more efficient...

    Quick question,
Myself and a friend where talking about his oil burner for his central heating, he told me that he has heard that it is more efficient to turn his thermostat down to min (65 degrees Celsius) and leave the system on 24 hours a day 7 days a week, he reckons this will provide a comfortable heat level in the house, instead of having the heating at max and turning it on 3 or 4 times a day for an hour each time...
he based his reasoning on the fact that the amount of energy needed to keep water at 65 degrees is less that having to heat water to 75 degrees from cold 4 times a day.....
seems a bit strange to me? any thoughts or better still links to agree or disagree with this??

a lot of variables, without the figures we cant work out the maths.
In theory its possible he is correct but depending on how much water is involved and how long the heating would be on for and at what temperature

Can't give you the water amount, just the usual amount for 9 rad's and a hot water cylinder.
temp is 65 degress for 24 hours
versus heating from 15 degrees to 75 degrees 4 times a day for 1 hour at a time.

i,d say the answer lies in the amount of insulation there is in the house
i don,t have any maths to back this up,but if its any help.
my house is well insulated and the quick blast a few times a day seems to work.
i work from a shed that has almost no insulation and the constant heat (from a stove)seems to work best.
the answer is in the walls roof etc.,if you ask me
