Hey, want to buy a honda s2000 in the new year and just wondering has anyone here got one or had any experience with them. crazy prices at the mo so hoping in the new year the prices will dive or get lucky wit a reposessed one being auctioned cheap, uk isnt really an option as vrt is crazy on them. have heard from people that handling on 04 > is far better than prior models and would be worth the extra money, ideas anyone?

Just in from a run in a '99 S2000. A good friend has one and he loves it. We went from Galway to Oranmore with the roof down and anoraks zipped up to the top :D not as cold as I thought it would be....!

Seriously but. Look out for accident damage as its very hard to get it fixed properly. Check the panel gaps. Look at the hood carefully as any rips, tears or stretches will mean replacement and thats a job for an expert...! Its at least €1000 to sort a hood ...! The car goes exactly where its pointed - if it feels like its wandering then steer clear. It should be tight with no rattles. Phils car has 108k miles and its really taught and reponsive. Make sure there's service history.

You will get a good one in the UK at the right money but the Revenue Gestapo will want a kings ransom for it. Its swings and roundabouts
Go look at as many as possible and get a good feel for them. Dont buy the first you see .. you know the owl score....!;)

Your going to be paying more importing one from japan at the moment, with the price of the yen to euro your much better off looking in the uk,vrt is going to bend you over wherever you buy from

cheers van, just havent had much exp wit em,not too many around like, will give any i be lookin at good check over, well used to buyin n sellin n fixin cars in general,

if ya think the handling in pre 04 ones is up to scratch ill have a look, they're way more reasonable price wise, obviously not a hope of importing, vrt makes it more expensive to buy in england, never thought id see the day where a car'd be cheaper to buy here!

been lookin at hard tops for it too, well worth the investment in our weather id say,bit warmer for the oul winters like

The later models had a glass rear window instead of plastic.
Apparently the plastic ones become hard to see out of after a while, (scratches, discolouration or something)

You should be able to find a buyers guide, or specialist advice on a Honda forum somewhere.

Unfortunatly ive never had the pleasure of driving one, but what ive read and heard about the pre 04 cars is that the handle is very dodgy, but only at higher speeds

And i agree, a hard top is a must have investment!

How fast must you go to get an S2000 to handle badly

The one I drove was a '99 and it handled beautifully and at no time did it feel dodgey even at licence losing speed....!

Unfortunately for the S2000 it falls into the category shared with Impreza's, Evo's, Skylines and M3's where the truth gets inflated and then this is taken as gospel..... So called "experts" then add their 10c and its all bulls**t from there..

Obviously 15 year old boys (experts) playing too much Gran Turismo are talking on the net about sommit they know nowt about.. but if they say that pre '04 S2000's handle badly then who am I to disagree :p

Early S2ks earned a reputation for being a bit of a handful "at the limit", though I reckon a lot of this was drivers trying to find where that limit was, and exceeding it. Later ('01 and on) had revisions to the suspension, and are apparently more docile.
There's a lot of value in the market at the moment for these, so shop around before you commit.

I happen to know this car, and it's an absolute bargain at this price.

Absolutely beautiful s2000. Was about to link it. All it needs is a hard top and its finished perfectly imo!
