Just to follow on from the (somewhat exaggerated) thread that was locked.

23% of Irish adults obese, another two-thirds are clinically overweight.

For some reason I thought it was going the other way, but it looks like we're still getting fatter.

How do we fix this? Tax fatty food? Treadmills on buses?

PS. This was on the Six-One News!

Fatty food does not make you fat, too much of any food does. I have a diet quite high in fat since I believe it to be healthy and helps me keep fat off. Treadmill on a bus? just walk. It is crazy people jammed in traffic, some driving 5 miles to the gym, run 10miles and drive 5 miles home, every moment costing them a fortune.

I would be interested in their definition of "obese". About a month ago I was 12.5stone and at 5'11'' defined as "overweight", and was eligible to go on the lipotrim starvation program as sold in pharmacies. While still wearing 32" jeans.

Half the Irish rugby team are probably defined as obese using BMI. It is not applicable to anybody with added muscle mass.

This was posted in the nutrition forum recently

I was bang in the middle OK on that, yet overweight on BMI. And around my ideal bodyfat %
