Sky not Working

Hi, I came home there just now, and turned on sky. When I go into all channels, I'm greeted with "Searching for Listings, Please Wait", and a few seconds later "no satellite signal is being received". I've checked the connections at the back, checked the card, and resetted the box by unplugging it several times.
Also as a test I went into Services, Sky Setup, Add Channels, and scanned for BBC channels and to my surprise it found them.
Can anyone help me please, I don't know what to do.
    Thanks in advance,
    Patrick

My Sky Plus box takes ages sometimes to find listings and won't record or you can't see the Planner to watch anything you have already recorded. Only way to get it wack is to unplug it, wait for a few minutes and turn it back on.

I was very close to ordering Sky HD 'cos I thought my beloved Sky Plus box had packed in.... Think HD is amazing, but still not sure if it's worth an extra €180 a year! I already pay over €600 for the channels I do subscribe to, but given the option to pay €49 for a new box or just go with the HD, I was gonna "futureproof" myself, until......

....I searched other forums relating to these type of Tech Issues (AVForum / Digitalspy) I found the answer.

Sky apparently did an upgrade of the EPG software to the Digiboxes last week sometime and there's a bug in it. They won't admit it publicly though!

If you turn off the "Auto Standby" setting, and don't put your box into standby at night, the problem doesn't appear. So it seems that once you put the box to "sleep" or it goes to sleep itself, the software crashes something and you lose the ability to record or view recorded programmes, until you do a full power down. Dunno if this is causing the same problem to standard Sky boxes, but may be worth looking into!?

According to Sky, this bug only affects some Pace boxes that have had their hard drives upgraded.... Seemingly though this is not the case, posters over at The Register are disputing this.

There's a very lengthy thread about this bug here. To summarize (idea: Very long threads should have a summary sticky at the top)

It seems that non-modified Pace Version 2 are affected
A recent software update 5.04.e caused the problem
Sky are now rolling back the software on affected boxes to the previous version 5.04.d
(To check your software version: Services -> system setup->system details)
This seems to be happening on a phased basis (my box is not updated yet:mad:)

Interesting, my box is the PACE BSKYB3100 and is modified. Well, 80GB instead of the original 40GB (that gave up and the thing wouldn't power up and did its "STUCK IN STANDBY" mode.)

Must check to see if they have rolled back the software on my box when I get home.

Sky went off last night. Nothing was showing, just the no signal message. Rang them today and it came back, but there's no signal quality. Nothing wrong with the dish.

Making your Sky box do a forced update fixed mine.

Take out the plug at the back and plug it back in whilst holding the backup button. You will see a screen saying not to unplug the box for 10 minutes. After it does the update it should reboot the box and the new firmware should be installed!

No, the update comes via the satellite so as far as I am aware you dont need a phone line!

Are you pressing the backup button on the Sky box, I have heard of people pressing the remote backup button!
