Carers Allowance Delay

I applied for Carers Allowance almost 6 months ago. I was told at the time that it takes quite a while to be processed. Fair enough. I have rang around every two weeks since then to speak to the personw ho was dealing with it. but could never get through, I always left a message though.

Anyway, long story short, they had "mislaid" the application. It was never sent to the approipriate department. The person lied to me for about 10 minutes trying to come up with reasons why I shouldn't apply for it ( WTF? when she had assured me I met all the criteria required six months ago), only after much discussion (aka banging head against brick wall) did she say "I hold my hands up, I forgot to send it".

I'm furious about it. She has said she will send it away now, but I could be waiting another six months for it to be processed, I'll need a bleedin' carer myself by then.

Any idea where I could go from here to speed up the process? Any help appreciated.
