Been recently listening to Binary Star - Masters of the Universe and Az - Doe or Die. And I thought these are both are great albums, but somewhat overlooked by more mainstream albums such as Illmatic.

What you think is the most over-looked album?

One album I nearly overlooked was Warriorz by MOP.

I'd bought it for Cold As Ice and Ante Up. Played it once and didn't like it so I decided to return it. When I went back to the place I'd bought it, they wouldn't let me return it because I'd taken the sticker off it. So I was stuck with it.

Anyway, eventually I gave it another try and I was very happy I did because it's a great album. Don't know how overlooked it could be considered as it was their biggest album.

One Be Lo and Senim Silla have made a ****load of solo stuff since that Binary Star album threadstarter, you should check it out. Both pretty impressive MC's.

Cormega's The Realness comes to mind, pretty incredible album. Shad's The Old Prince as well.

No ID - Accept Your Own and Be Yourself
K def and larry o - the turn around
Big noyd - episodes of a hustla
Mad flava - from the ground unda

Are just a few of the top of the head

Cormega is one of my favourite rappers ever unfortunately his best song never made any album proper "dead man walking"

Some good choices there, especially Real Live, excellent album. There are a lot more that can be added to this, so to start off:

Aceyalone - A Book of Human Language
    Eyedea & Abilities - E&A
    Sole - Selling Live Water
    p.O.S. - Audition
    Sims - Lights Out Paris
Glue - catch As Catch can
    Hanger 18 - H~18
    Mac Lethal - 11:11
Mike Mictlan and Lazerbeak - Hand Over Fist
BlockHead - Uncle Tony's Colouring Book
    Dagha - The Divorse
    Illogic - Celestial ClockWork

....this could go on for a while, so i'm going to stop for now.

Goodie Mobb's 'Soul Food' is probably the most overlooked album ever. I doubt any Hip-Hop fan who listened to it wouldn't rate it very highly.

Yup. Probably the most overlooked producers...

As I'm listening to it right now, Stress: The Extinction Agenda is a stone cold classic as well.

Just checked my computer here in work and it's sitting there in iTunes. Ahh, i have just pressed play...it's going to be an awesome 45 minutes.

Soul Food is top drawer stuff also.

@KOLD - Die Rugged Man Die is quite good also, especially the track with Timbo King

    Just thought I'd update ya'll.

Listened to Stress: The Extinction Agenda a few times today and it's incredible. Cheers for the reminder on that Orizio.

Masta Ace - A long Hot Summer also magically appeared on my machine today, those internet pixies are working overtime :) Very impressed with this and i like the outakes as the last track. Although Ace is the best MC out there, he sure knows how to pen a good lyric and knows how to flow over a beat. The beats are great on this also, 9th wonder, DJ Spinna, Marco Polo, Dug Infinite (very underrated producer). I was a bit miffed when i first seen all the featured artists and thought that it wouldd sound more like a compliation like other albums with too many guest spots, but everyone does a great job, especially Punch & Words.
I can see myself listening to this album over and over.

So to keep on the theme of the thread, this was an overlooked album by me at least....but no longer the case.

    BOOM

I could listen to Beautiful over and over and over again...

Anyway, couple of other overlooked artists people may have missed - Killer Mike makes real tight southern Rap, check out Monster and Ghetto Extraordinary in particular.

DJ Quik's 'Quik Is The Name' is a bit of a hidden G-Funk gem. Even if you don't like that era, **** is sooooo funky and well produced to not appreciate it would be insane...

Geto Boys - Grip It! On That Other Level/Geto Boys (pretty much the same album)

Every track is a classic. Best album ever.

DJ Quik Safe and Sound is another gem. I'm still undecided at which is a better album, maybe Quik Is The Name only because Quik disses MC Eiht way too much no Safe and Sound. Eiht doesnt deserve it after releasing Straight Checkn Em and Music To Drive By, 2 other classics.

All the LOX albums had sh*tty annoying skits that made them sh*t.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,593 ✭✭✭tossy

Most modern rap albums have annoying pointless skits!

Think of the great hip hop albums and think of skits? no that many had them and if the did the were either funny (wu enter the 36 chambers - yo where my killa tape at? :D ) or served as a proper introduction to the track such as the old P.E intros.

Peanut Butter Wolf's Jukebox 45s is definitely an overlooked album.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 468 ✭✭godspal

Decided to Bump this thread after listening to CYNE - Time Being.

Also Organised Konfusion - Stress was bumpin', so was Masta Ace - Long, Hot Summer, so thanks for the recommendations.

I Have Peanut Butter Wolf's - My Vinyl Weighs a Ton so I have been meaning to get round to his other albums.

There is also a few other albums I would to recommend to all ye all:
    Blase B. - Collections
    Marco Polo - Port Authority
Verbal Threat - Join the Movement Vol. 1

Edit: OH YEAH! Cornmega - The Realness was some dope **** too. I love the QB sound. Any other QB albums would be greatly appreciated.

i've been listening to dagha - the divorce for the past week and, let me ask you, how come that lp was overlooked? it's brilliant!

what about chords - things we do for things? it was one of the better releases of 2008, but there's wasn't much fuss over it.

Does GZA's Liquid Swords qualify? Love that album.

The Divorce is great, Dagha has started to make videos for the songs on the album that tie together, they are a bit dodgy production-wise but they give a bit more insight into the ideas behind the songs.

oh yeah....i mentioned this album earlier in this thread :p

is one of the most incredible and overlooked albums i've come across. The trio have always been seriously underrated and I can never understand why. They made some quality music, and never had to resort to commercialism

I agree, this is an overlooked album, it's their best imo. But De la aren't underrated in the hip hop world.

Well what i mean though is that unless your deep into hip-hop, you won't really know about them. For example if you ever look at a Top 10 list of rappers, you never see posdnous there:cool:
