What year? Certainly on my wife's '00 Yaris you don't need to remove the light housing or anything like that. The passenger side (if I remember correctly) on is a PITA to get at though because the battery is in the way.

Thanks for the response. It is 2001 and I too need to change the passenger side. The battery is in the way, so I thought there must be another method

Just loosen the battery bracket and you can move the battery in a bit so you will have a bit more room.

    I didn't know you were a lady :p
Don't worry they won't laugh,i would think if you asked nicely most places wouldn't charge you if it wasn't any hassle.

Certainly from the 06- model it's absolutely impossible to get at the headlight bulbs.

It would actually be less hassle and time consuming to take the unit out to do it.

thanks quirke! the manual isn't all that helpful. I tried that first. :)
I had no luck doing it myself, so will bring it to a garage today! thanks for all responses!

God no. Do not bring it to a garage. They can be notorious for charging an hours labour to do it.

Some local garages will be happy just to do it themselves and give you a look as though you should have known this yourself.

If I knew where you were I would nearly drive to you and do it for you. Surely you must have a family member or work colleague who can do it for you.

A Toyota garage could charge €160 labour for changing a bulb and the price of the bulb on top of that around €5.

    Mad

    €160??
No- you are right, i'll manage! it just means driving around with one light for a week until I see someone at home with a bit more savvy! :) i think it will be worth waiting!

It's hard to believe it's this complicated to change a bulb!

    Thanks!

Don't drive without it. Are you in Galway? I'll come over and do it for a cup of tea.

    thanks tho!

take it to Advanced Pitstop. I had the same problem with my Passat. I just couldn't get my hand in to change the bulb. They did it in 5 minutes for a grand total of €2. Including the bulb IIRC

Thanks! will give that a go next! :)

I know this is a little bit of a late post to the thread, but if it helps i would willing murder the person who designed the headlamp system of the toyota yaris.

After changing the lamps for the 4th time in 5 years i am so utterly annoyed at the moron who designed the engine area that i would be happy to choke him until he apoligises and spends the next 2 months doing nothing but changing the lightbulbs in yaris cars!! lol

That is how terribly annoying the front headlamps are, the drivers side is fine, its the passenger near the fuse box that is annoying, why the hell didn't anyone have the intelligence to place the fuse box the other way around giving everyone more room to put their hands in?

i brought it to pitstop in the end. he hadnt a clue what he was at. first he took off the light cover. no luck there, and he chipped it when putting it back on. then after a lot of rooting he finally realised you need to move the battery. an hour and half later.. he got it was done! cost was 8.85. but he didnt charge me in the end- as i pointed out that his colleague scratched my car while jacking up a car next to mine ( which he denied- but was clearly guilty as I was sitting in the car the whole time- and his friend even looked around to see what the bang was ). next time - ill go to somewhere else!

That's a bit vague isn't it? I mean in theory they could charge you €1,000 - but that's pretty unlikely too. I have never seen a customer charged 2 hours labour (or anything remotely close to that) for changing a bulb.

Not specific to the Yaris but I notice more & more cars are becoming ridiculous when it comes to changing bulbs, I believe the Beetle needs to be dismantled in a Garage, the BMW X5 is something similar.

Have they all gone mad?

Does anyone have a method for replacing the bulb on the driver side in the new model yaris? There is a black fuse box in the way. The bolt holding the box to the car is beneath it and it seems impossible to get to it.
