Have you tried plugging it in???

If not, if reccommend trying that.

If you have, try inspecting the power cable for the ps3. Look at the fuse/the 3pin power supply at the back of the ps3

Yeah even tried the "Power On" switch.
    Thanks for your help though.
Borrowed my neighbours plug, didn't work with it either.

don't know if it makes a difference, or if it was just coincidence but it cut-out while it was updating.

Ok well first things first, not to be condosending, But the PS3 is classed a a "console" so refer to it as such in posts.

Okay so the power went on the unit, while updating.
Updating is a standard process on all console ranges when connecting it online for the first time. It rarely ends in a disaster such as yours.
I would first check the power supply. I know you have done this with someone elses power unit but make sure that the socket on the wall has the correct power level reaching.
Try the console in another room.

If this fails. contact the store directly where you purchased it and they can point you in the right direction. If it is less than 12 months old they can identify it as such and chances are your covered for a repair.

    Start there.

The update shouldn't have affected the power supply. Here is the number to ring sony Eire:0818 365 065. They are norm very good at replacing ps3's that are still under warrantee

Its not offensive to the console. but when you cross PS3 consoles with computers when looking for advice it can lead to confusion.

Dont worry too much about your mistake, it seems you have got the help required;)

Maybe I'm stuck in my ways, but if they play computer games they are computers to me.
