The way of the Future too?

Do any of you remember a band called 'It Bites' , no? I barely do it's so long ago.

Well their singer/guitarist was a guy called Francis Dunnery who's featured in a recent M-Audio magazine.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francis_Dunnery

What he's doing now is 'touring' by playing what are essentially house parties.
It's an interesting idea and again reflect the Indie-ness that I think will be how the music biz will (re)develop.

    http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=artists.interview&ID=c7f836054ac699d1efcb3b1775def82d

I'm of the opinion the only artists that will succeed in the future may be the 'renaissance' men who can do things that aren't 'just' playing music. i.e. they take care of business too.

I think it's going to be harder for the pure artist to succeed in any measurable way as the practical infrastructure that was once around the Arty Types , (managers, tour managers etc) who can work with awkward Artistes will no longer be as common.

Practicalness will prevail ... maybe not the best thing for music? Or maybe the best thing when the immature excesses of the past are gone ?

    Fun times ahead!

Living room gigs are something that are done a fair bit in the States.
I'm not sure it works financially without something of a following, but it's definitely worth looking into, perhpas moreso for the acoustic artist.

Very way of the past too. A lot of the classical big hitters would play in private houses in Vienna and the like. So now.

Sounds stupid to me and I don't mean that in a critical way towards anyone, just my opinion, thats all.

ive done a few house parties as a dj and live artists.. although they usually happen at 3am after a club!

i have been paid for a few aswell but they're normally an occasion (birthday, end of college year etc) and booked before hand.

I just think it's a bit snobby to have a songwriter entertain a champagne party on ice for the goodness of 'storytelling'. It is storytelling alright with a big fat bill at the end for the teller. If he really enjoyed it so much would he do it for free? Sell out.

You don't need a manual, you just push buttons until you get a result.
