Isn't it unreal?? kudos to the SU for getting it built,i must say its mighty impressive -

'The Common Room boasts four plasma screen televisions, a Playstation 3, a DVD player and a top quality sound system. Students have a full Sky subscription at their disposal so you can watch almost anything on tv. This will be a great utility for students to watch Champions League games free of charge, as opposed to having to go to the pub. Home & Away will be aired everyday at lunchtime so there is no longer a need to be skipping lectures! For the first time ever a microwave will also be available for students to heat up their lunches that they bring to college. Wireless internet will also be available so students won’t have to get hassled for plugging in their laptops like they currently do in the Student Centre.'

That microwave will save me so much! :D

think of the queues though, they will be dpressing. Its been really nice in there the last few days, not everyone seems to know its open, so there is always a few spare seats

Gonna be kept all hush as it's just a place where all the knobs in the SU and their friends (all 2 of them) to hang out. Nice of them spending some of our fees on it!

what do ya mean its gonna be kept all hush? there was an email sent out

Load of posters about the place as well. Seen 'em in the student centre the last two weeks at least.

I found it a little ironic that at the same time certain people are opposing a measured reintroduction of fees, UCC students open up a common room replete with video games, plasma TVs and a Sky subscription, etc. And I wasn't impressed when an email was circulated saying Home and Away would be screened daily so students wouldn't have to miss lectures. People here can draw their own conclusions. What a strange set of priorities some so-called "students" have...

It is just supporting the wishes of a large proportion of students

I think we should do a march against lectures during Home and Away.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,500 ✭✭✭ReacherCreature

Does it not get crowded etc.?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,027 ✭✭✭✭titan18

Ya, a little bit, its hard to get a seat right in front of a TV

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,110 ✭✭✭Aodan83

It's usually quiet enough during lectures, until around 1,2 o clock, coz of home and away, and people havin lunch. It's fairly quiet all day on a friday though. Dont count on gettin a couch right in front of the tv though.

Haven't been there yet, but will investigate at some point. I like the idea of having a microwave - a more appetising alternative to the Main's cuisine! :D
It's a good idea, and I hope it goes well (by that I mean it doesn't get either too packed or completely deserted)

Hmm, I'm not quite sure if I can dissect the sheer amount of FAIL condensed into that simple little post....I'll give it a try, though:

"Gonna be kept all hush" - I know, it's disgraceful. All they did was send e-mails to every student, mention it in the UCC Express and put up posters all around campus.
They never announced on the 6 O'Clock News - fecking useless PR I tells ya.

"knobs in the SU" - oooh bitter that you didn't get elected, perhaps?

"and their friends (all 2 of them)" I'm sure you think you're hilarious but that was such a dumb immature comment I'm shocked it came from someone of college-going age.

"Nice of them spending some of our fees on it!" Oh tell me about it. Forking out TENS of money! On a place for STUDENTS!! TO RELAX!!!
And during a recession....dear God, whatever is the world coming to?

Well to be honest, I would prefer they kept the money to subsidize printing charges. Printing is something I use and since I am a workhorse a relaxation area is something I don't use.

The horse was getting some water from the trough, thirsty horse needs a break! But point still stands!

Well seeing as the they won't allow coffee in the library anymore we'll have to leave you off with the trough.

But how are we supposed to study then??!

Same as before, only without coffee. Just learned today that coffee effectively puts your brain to sleep for 2 to 3 hours, after about 20 mins of extra energy. So your better off without the coffee anyway. Drink water, it's good for you!!!

Wait, water is bad for you too for studying apparently. Do some work btw

How the hell is water bad for you when your studying? You're not supposed to just chug 2 litres off it like, take it easy. A sip at a time, man. And I have been doing some work, I'll have you know!

That's what the study one said on the foods that are bad for you.

    So is the English language
Oh come on. I maintained a very high standard of english until that point. Surely you could have left me off?! And your comment doesnt even make that much sense. The english language isn't any better for you (like drinking less coffee and more water), but studying it is.
