Does the Apple Remote Control work with the MacBook for changing volume etc, or is it just for the Ipod?

It works fine with all current (and previous gen.) MacBooks, MacBook Pros, iMacs and Minis...

I'm guessing there are plenty of cheap and perfectly good alternatives to the Apple remote?

Great device. Works for transitions in Keynote too. It's not that expensive, RichyX. €20 well spent!

They used to include them up until last year actually, but dont quote me on that. I hate the way apple do that. Did the same with the iPhone 3G...... dock anyone??? Sure, i remember when i got my U2 ipod it came in a massive box(which i still have) with a firewire charger, firewire cable, and usb cable. But i do really like the whole new simplicity aspect of the new ipods, but i always wonder. What if you dont have the internet and buy an ipod??? Where do you install itunes??(only applicable to windows obviously)

You get Breezer to post a copy to you across the country on a USB stick. Well one person did... Then there was a LONG phone conversation where I explained how to put songs on the iPod, right down to the intricacies of left clicking and right clicking. Fun times.

Nope, it works with pretty much every iPod released in the last few years, including the iPhones, when used with the universal dock (because that's where the IR sensor is - iPods don't have one built in). All the "basic" functions work - next/previous, volume up/down, play/pause but the "Menu" button has no function when used with iPods - that only works when used with Macs.
