Low Power Classics?

Been listening to AC/DC's Black Ice all morning and I started thinking I'd love a low power Plexi, say a 5 watter or thereabouts. You know, something that you can just about get cooking, with lovely dynamic response, and still retain friendly neighbours. Being a GASsy individual I started thinking about other classics too, like a 5 watt Fender Twin, a low power Mesa Boogie MKIV or Rectumfrier, things like that. Now Im extremely un-technical so I dont know if those classics could be made with lower power output stages and still retain the character of their super loud siblings. With us all living within spitting distance of our next door neighbours nowadays (us in Dublin anyway!) I'm sure they'd be big sellers, especially with all the home-studio enthusiasts we have nowadays too. The days of needing a 100 watt stack are really kind of over, unless you get to play big ass venues on a regular basis.
Ah well, bring on the 5watt Blackstar HT5, I'm literally foaming at the mouth for it!
(I really should stop these rambling out loud kind of threads:o)

What about the Epiphone Valve Jr. or there is a Orange amp that would fit the bill, but I can't remember what the models name is.

i hear ye.i have been looking for something small for the house and i have narrowed it down to the bad cat mini cat,the cornford carrera, the cornell romany plus(the new one will have 4 output stages from 10watts to 0.05watts)and the carvin vintage 16.i am also looking into making my own,i have made a few pedals so i think the next step is an amp.

Cornford harlequin is where it's at.

Brilliant amp that sounds perfect for what you need. 6w 1x12 amp designed to sound like a plexi.

www.ceriatone.com is great for other classic amps, but doesnt have many low-watters, apart from the champ clones. Unless you consider 18watters "low power" :).

With a couple of cheap and easy mods the Harley Benton GA5 can give you some great AC/DC tones for under a €100 from Thomman. There's a sound sample of mine on my uTube page, see sig.
There's another guy on here, Alan, with a great sounding Fender Champ.
These amps can give great tone for home use but you'd want a bit more juice for gigging or rehearsing with a maniac drummer!! :pac:

I just started building a single-ended amp with a 1959ish preamp. Think I'm going to put a KT-88 in the output and use it as a little bass amp. I imagine it's probably going to take some tweaking to get the preamp and the powerstage to couple properly. It will be the awesomest amp ever made. :pac:

    Have a look at this

    http://www.fargenamps.com/ampminiplex.html

18W handmade Plexi Replica thats half the price of any of the Marshall hand wired series ( and even better again)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_euZJYNlaY

found this demo of it too
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1C0sU_4dAk&feature=related

i mentioned the site below on some other thread - have a look on here - it'll give you a good idea of what to look for

    http://www.musictoyz.com -
look at the amp section - its like a library

I still prefer something with a rectifier - you can get that Let there be Rock sound from if you want blood perfect evertime - and pedals work with you not against

I actually thought about offering up my Matamp head for a swap, but I know I'd regret letting the Matamp go.

Mine is a 1224mkII Dord, which in the context of this thread is a clever amp. Switchable from class A/B 4 tube output, to class A/B 2 tubes, then to class A 2 tubes and finally class A single tube. And then theres a half power switch and a triode/diode switch. So you can bring it down to (a still loud) 3.5 watts or thereabouts. I still want a 5 watt plexi and a 5 watt twin though:p

I pledge allegiance Quattroste, it shall not be sold!!
