    Hi all

Anyone know where I can get my engagement ring appraised in Dublin city centre? Any ideas of the cost too?

    Thanks :)

Weirs in Grafton Street did mine....think it cost 10% of the total value...

    Thanks for that :)

Am I right in thinking most decent jewellers will provide this service?

    Thanks

ESL Jewellery in the Powerscourt centre will value it for a set fee and without sending it away. I'm pretty sure he meant 10% of the value, though typical valuation fees vary between 2 and 5% of the value of the ring. Most jewellers in Dublin don't seem to have these facilities on site and we even asked Weirs who told us they would have to send it away to be valued.

Be wary of anyone who charges a set % as they will overestimate the value. If it's a set fee, they've no reason to rip you off.

typical valuation fees are 1%, not 2-5. i was being tongue in cheek, nobody charges 10% :)

most jewellers have this facility on-site, but obviously not the big places (h.samuel, fields, etc) where the staff mightn't have the training.

    I stand corrected. :)

We went around most of the major ones, all of whom told us that they'd have to send it away.

Thanks guys, we went to ESL today. They charge a 75euro flat fee and it only took about 10 mins. They post out the valuation too. Great service :)
