Instant Brain Evaluation

    Hi,
Spotted 10 cent piece on the street the other day, and my brain kind of subconciously evaluated the cost-benefit analysis of stopping and picking it up versus the benefit of 10 cent.
The result was "walk on" and I left it. However, when I saw a 20 cent piece I stopped to pick it up.
Just wondering where is the tipping point - what value of coin(s) would I stop and pick up 15cent...18cent (obviously this would allow for more than one coin)
Would anybody stop and pick up 10 cent?
    L

It takes 3 seconds to pick up 10 cent, meaning you turned your nose up at earning €120/hour. The youth of today :pac:

If there was no one around, and I wasn't in a rush, and the coin looked relatively dirt-free, and it was shining into my eyes....a clear sign that I was supposed to pick it up. Then yeah, probably.

Nothing under 50 cent is worth picking up. You are really putting yourself at risk of a "dropping the soap" type scenario....

Whatever you're getting paid....it's too much.

OK it's only 10c, but it's shiny and calling you, and you will hurt it's feelings. How can you be so cruel.

I do not have abandonment issues :o

It would have to be 20cent upwards for me. Although if I dropped money I'd only pick up a coin of a greater value than 5c. Those 1 and 2 cent coins aren't worth the copper they're made out of.

50c would do the job for me

Can a mod add a poll for this? Would be interesting to see what everyone's lower limit is

"How low can you go?" poll or "How much money will it take to get you to bend over?"

    Posters would get confuzzed. Pass.

my mother and father have a saying "never pass your luck by" so they'll stop even for a penny (or a cent!)
Me, usually I'll keep walking but if I've just done the lotto or something I can't help hearing my mam's voice in my head "never pass your luck by"!!!!

Today FM Ray Darcy show did this one day on the streets of dublin and the min anyone would pick up was 20c.

the most people to pick up were women, granted a short period was used but busy grafton street and 7 out of 10 who picked up were female.

Mairead Farrell then went to chat to them but a few just legged it didnt want to talk.

    so which is it

the amount? or the fact you would be seen picking up money from the street and you want to put a value on your effort as an excuse to pick it up in the first place?

    which win over every time?

I found 10c once and bought a Wonka Whipple Scrumptious Fudgmallow Delight. Much to my surprise I found a golden ticket under the wrapper that permitted me and my grampa Joe to a tour of Wonka's secret factory. Shame he tried to rape me when I got there.

Moral of the story....don't pick up 10c - Gene Wilder will get you!

I absolutely always pick up 50c or more and 99% of the time I'd pick up 20c.
As for 10c....I'd definitely pick it up if nobody was looking. If my friends were looking, I'd pick it up and make some self depricating remark like "aw I'm such a scab!!" before they could have the chance.

Never pick up coppers tho! 5 years ago I would have.
