The book launch will take place in Ryan's on Queen St, Dublin 7 on Saturday, November 29th, 2008 at 4pm.

Books will be distributed at that point. If you can't make it there to collect your book, please contact Ideo (who has the list) and we'll try to arrange something. Any books left sitting in my car after the event may be flogged on Henry St if I get sick of them ;)

    Directions:
For those travelling to the pub on the Red line Luas get off at Smithfield, there is a secret back door down a lane way - marked on Google maps as Arran St W

Queen St is at the 6th bridge west of O'Connell Bridge or the 3rd bridge from Heuston - buses going along either the north or south quays will get you there easily.

Jervis St carpark is approx 15 minutes walk away, though there might be on street parking/other carparks closer.

    Publicity:
I'm going to contact Q102 now. Can people post up what news agencies etc. they've contacted to make sure we're not hassling the same people twice?

Mods- can we sticky this until the date please?

With regard to publicity - Ideo's mate who works in a PR firm is taking care of the press release I sent him yesterday, so we've got that covered I think?? Like you said - we should probably not hassle the press with a crap load of emails. We'll see how that goes, although if q102 need a week's notice I'm sure there's no harm there..

I'm sourcing the beards from the very very nice people at thecostumeshop.ie :D So who's dressing up? Are you bringing santa costumes? Or army stuff?? I love the idea of santas in camouflage - as Devore said its in excellent keeping with the undercover nature of SSF

I've just sent the following mail to Q102 - should have read around and found the proper press release :( Hope this is OK.

Proper links to SSF and the forum etc were all in the original mail.

    Charity announcement:

A new book is being launched by photographers from boards.ie in aid of the Santa Strikeforce which distributes cool stuff for kids to hospitals and care centres in the run up to Christmas. The book is being launched at 4pm on Saturday November 29th in Ryan’s on Queen Street, Dublin 7. Copies are available for purchase from www.boardsyearbook.com. All are welcome to attend the launch, and preview copies of this book, which would make an ideal Christmas present.

    Hi,

I’d appreciate it if you could advertise this event on Q102 during the coming week (apologies if it’s a bit short notice).

If any of your reporters would like to come along to the launch, we can offer sandwiches.

    Some background:
The boards.ie photography forum is widely used by amateur and professional photographers to share information and ideas. In late September, someone came up with the idea of putting together a book of photographs in aid of the Santa Strikeforce. Miraculously, given that this was just a bunch of people on the internet, most of whom had never met, the book was compiled, designed, edited and ready for print in 6 weeks!

You can see a preview of the book here – the first copies have arrived and we’re all very excited about this. So far in excess of €800 has been raised, even though none of us have met each other yet.

If anyone would be interested in talking to some of the organisers, you can contact me on <my phone number> and I’ll put you in touch with the relevant people.

    Regards,

    <my real name>

Yay, a date is set! No worries about not finding the other PR, you got the idea spot on in what you sent already. Did the books arrive today?

Yup, 2 heavy boxes of books in the boot of my car right now! I've left one in a hotel with purchasing details.

Any chance of a temporary sticky?

I can sticky this but often people will see it more if its on top of the daily threads. If it drops, I'll sticky it.

Cant wait to see the book :)

That evening the Boards Comedy forum are having an open mic night! I'm thinking we get dinner after the launch and keep on going into the night!

Sounds like a plan - I know a nice Chinese...

However I think we should wait to make dinner plans until the night, when we see how many people we actually have. Trying to organise dinner at this stage will lead to arguments with the people who want dinner to cost a tenner, the people who only want to eat raw vegetables, the people who are allergic to food and the ones who think €70 is a reasonable price for a cup of coffee :)

I'll forewarn the restaurant that a gaggle of us might turn up and see if the private dining area is already booked or not, but we'll make the final call on the Saturday afternoon if that suits?

    Yep no problem :)

Sounds like a plan. I've still got no idea if I'll have the little fella with me (and believe me you don't want to sit through a dinner with him) so deciding on the day is a much better option :)

I dunno, some fried noodles, a bit of soy sauce, maybe some garlic and chilli powder - it'd probably be fine ;)

I'm bringing my costume - there's room in there for another ;) Oh behave!

I may have some camo gear I can bring along - if it's delivered in time.
