Actually it's pretty good. For once nobody can take the snobby approach about remakes and say it's not as good as the original as it's almost a shot for shot remake.

Redundant, yes, but as good as the original.

Just like nobody can say Psycho is not as good as the original because it's almost shot for shot? :pac:

Think this is the worst kind of remake - just a pointless waste of resources because the studios don't believe in wide release foreign films :(. This is a film worth a boycott if ever there was one.

Saw it tonight and I thought it was pretty good.
Never knew it was a remake of another movie but I'll be searching REC out now to see how Quarantine compares to the original.

I read a few reports that the [rec] producers sold the rights while it was still in pre-production to get more funding. Not sure if this is true or not though.

I saw this last night, and I didn't think it was too bad at all. While the majority of the film is borrowed from the original, they do add a few of their own touches. Most notably
killing one of the infected with the camera (first-person view style), which was quite cool.
Jennifer Carpenter was pretty decent as well.

One thing that boggles me was the almighty spoiler in the trailer.
You actually see Jennifer Carpenter being dragged across the floor into the darkness. It's the last shot of the movie ffs!

Have seen neither but yes that did look like a major spoiler in the trailer.
I'll never understand why they spoil so much in trailers for films, it's ridiculous.

Sure if the trailer doesn't tell ya when it happens it's hardly a spoiler, is it?

But when the final scene of the movie arrives, the viewers might cast their minds back to the trailer and think 'hey, I know what's going to happen here'. My friend said to to me when we came out of the cinema, because he'd seen the trailer beforehand. It's also pretty identifiable
because the whole scene was shot in night-vision.

Ah yes, I get what ya mean, I just haven't seen it yet.

Comparing the remake of Psycho to any other remake is pointless. Gus Van Sant's movie wasn't a remake like any other. It was an exact replica of the original. Same dialogue, same camera angles etc. It's a duplication more than anything else.

Ok, so I've said Quarantine is a shot for shot remake of Rec. That's not exactly true, certainly not in the way Psycho is. There are several new scenes and different characters and the ending and explanation for what's happening is different.

What I suppose I meant to say is that it contains enough of what the original had, is filmed in the same way and contains enough of the same energy and style of Rec to give it a lot of merit.

Whatsmore, Quarantine seems to be made for a particular audience, that find subtitles an un-acceptable boundary in cinema trips. And a particular country who don't understand that there is a 'rest of the world' where things cn happen.
    Also I wonder if
the religious element at the end was removed to stop them offending religious groups.

Can't believe they remade this, it was bad enough first time around!! Awful pointless movie it rips off so many other movies!

What a boring, silly, pointless and knock off of the blair witch, the entire twenty minutes at the start in the fire station were nothing actualy happens, the end was abit unnerving and freaky but didnt make up for the rest the movie being crap

What?! I thought it was one of the better horror films I've seen in the past few years. :o

I guess I'll take a look at this when I get the chance. In the meanwhile I'll console myself with the fact that it probably isn't as bad as the Bangkok Dangerous remake.

as far as remakes for subtitle-phobes this is up there with the better ones, the 1st 20 minutes was bang on the button pretty much and was nearly identical to how the spanish actress was lol . end was a bit different but cant comment on the trailer spoiler as i never saw one, definitely not as bad as bangkok dangerous or funny games remakes as recent examples.

watch out for 2010 its gonna be the year of the game to movie lost count how many game are being remade to movies to be released then .
