    Hi there...

    I've a Windows 2000 SP4 PC, fully patched, running IE6.

    The user opened an email she thought was from her sister with a 'link' to a You Tube video. Now her PC is slower and she's getting lots of Pop Ups and warnings about her PC being infected ( e.g. You need to install AV 2009 etc. ).

    I've done a full scan with Symantec and AdAware, and they find nothing. Even in Safe Mode nothing is found. I can't see anything obvious or supicious in the 'Run' Key of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, and nothing obvious ( to me at least ) is running in Task Manager

    However, I've also spotted that the Windows Automatic Updates Service is Disabled, and if I set it to Manual or Automatic it goes right back to Disabled again.

    I know I can copy the data off the PC, wipe it and rebuild it etc. tomorrow, but before I do that I thought I'd check here in case someone might have some ideas of what else I can do, what other software I can try. The last thing I'm going to do is Google for Anti-Spyware, as most of the results are not to be trusted!

    Unfortunately, at the moment, I can't change the Browser / OS due to Company standards. Any advice please? Thanks!

    Excellent recommendation, thanks! Had to run a couple of scans, including one in normal mode, but it's all fixed now and a lot quicker than rebuidling the laptop. I'll be using that software in future...
