Closest to Limerick would be Galway. As far as I'm aware the only sambo in Ireland is in Swords, Cork or Galway.

Here's some of the Irish Squad at the World Championships last weekend. :D:D:D

We have 4 ex-sambo guys from Poland training with us. If you want to drop down to us in Wexford, you are more than welcome.

what a picture! were the irish guys competing?

Three were competing, two went out in the first round with one getting to the last eight before loosing out to the eventual gold medallist. Two got injured the week before the competition, which sucked.

One of the lads has a picture of the team with Blagoi Ivanov aswell.

Don't have contact details for the lads in Swords on me, I'd say Judomad would be the one to talk to there.

Hows it goin lads? Just wondering where is the Sambo club in Cork? I had heard that there was one in sitjaipetch muay thai club, but when I went down to find out about it the trainer had gone back to Russia. Just wondering does anyone know have the classes restarted, or is there anyone/anywhere else? Either looking for sambo or just straight wrestling classes anywhere within 20-30 mins of Cork city. Thanks a lot.

I can only tell you that they're in Image Gym on Castle Street in Swords on a Saturday morning, at 11 I think. They take newcomers.

Does the place in Swords train Sport Sambo or Combat Sambo?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 830 ✭✭✭Judomad

they train Combat Sambo...Tuesday 8.30, Friday 8.30 and saturday 2pm, its on in Image Helath & Fitness, Castle Shopping Centre in Sword, when you go down through Swords Main St, turn left after Londis, Game Stop and Abrakebabra, bout 200meters down th road there is a car park on your left, you'll get a ticket of the man in the hut(get a stamp in the gym and its free) then the gym is 3 or 4 doors from the end, its all upstairs and when you go up the stairs, you'll bump into either John(the owner/former Mr.Ireland) Enda(The current overall NABBA winner) a 6'8 little girl called Paddy:D or myself. the studio is on your righ hand side with Arturas Prankevikius(2 time european silver medalist, 1 time World silver medalist and 1 time world bronze medalist) taking the class, there is also some good lads training, Irmantus, Marcin and Vasyli(Moldovan Judo Champ and all round monster:D and sometimes i go in for the extra training, good class, good variation of weights, 65-110 kg.

recommend it to anybody intrested in Sambo and even MMA.
    any other questions just ask:D

I'm starving and when I saw this thread on the home page I thought it was about some exciting new ex-USSR sandwich coming to Dublin.

Note to self......must read which forum the thread is posted in before letting belly think of food.

Ah no as I said it was my own fault, should have rung the gym to make sure they were there that day,but your information was bang on.I have done a bit of judo on and off (more off than on) for the past few years, just looking for something for fitness and self defence that would work well with the bit of judo I know.

Actually that one wasn't counted as a Loss. It was recorded as a No Contest. His 1 and only loss is to Ricardo Arona in the now defunct RINGS [I miss the old school RINGS and Pancrase style rules]

Too bad you guys didn't try to ask Fedor over for a seminar.

    ?

He won a decision over Arona (admittedly a contentious one for some people) and under Rings rules, his fight against TK was a loss.

When he was cut against Minotauro, that was a No Contest because it was under Pride rules.

Thanks for the correction Clive. I knew it was in RINGS but for some reason I thought it was Arona that beat him not TK.

    Thanks again.

Can anyone tell me if there are any Sambo clubs in the southeast? I'm based in Kilkenny but willing to travel (although Cork/Dublin is to long of a trip)

Sadly no Sambo clubs in the SouthEast. You can do Judo in Kilkenny if that's good enough for you.
