If the Sporting Emporium keep shooting themselves in the foot!

With business already slow at the moment, is it really a good idea to go and piss off your punters by shutting up shop early???

Its not the first time that they have done this, closing time is 6 last 3 hands are called at 5:45 but to be calling last 3 hands at 5:30 and last night at 5:25 is just ridiculous!!!!!

The reason for this, because there is nobody downstairs playing blackjack roulette etc etc. Once again it goes to show the lack of respect that the "bigwigs" have for the poker players who are there day after day week after week than some randomer taking a quick spin on the wheel of death!

Last night for example with about 12 people left everybody sitting there happy to play, playing their hands paying their rake, why not lets cut their game short!

As a big fan of the SE it makes me angry to see them do stuff like that, when they should be making efforts to try and invigorate the place once again, when the likes of other clubs are doing alot in their powers to keep the players happy!

    Sigh :(

Danny just take the hint. Why go where your business is not wanted?

    recession FTW.
Get used to it. It's going to be happening more and more in the next year or two. The amount of rake you pay wont even cover the cost of the electricity for the last few hands they keep the lights on.

The sooner the poker dies in there the better for the mgmt imo, and equally the fitz.

Well I've given up on the place after my last visit.

Its 3am on a friday and I arrive with a friend wearing a Leinster rugby jersey. The guy at the door tells me that jerseys are banned!!! LOL!! Ive worn it there in the past but hes not having any of it. I decide to throw on my friends hoody and we head upstairs to see only two tables going at this peak time. I havent been back and I wont be.

I love playing there as its the nicest room we have by a long way, but after that Id even prefer to play in the Jackpot and thats saying something considering I dont like the place!!!

As Joe said the sooner they just make it official and close the poker room the better.

I think it all depends on whos on the door, i have been stopped before because of jerseys, but yet on the saturday when the Ireland rugby match was on there was loads of people in floating around with them on.

Yeah but most of them were D4 rugger buggers with loadsa cash to spew away on the wheel of death, they're allowed in no questions asked.

I have to agree with Danny's OP though and am in a similar situation. I've always stated that the SE is my favourite place to play live but they continually do stupid things to piss off what few loyal customers they have left. When last 3 was called last night at 5:25, I couldn't believe it.

There are also problems with the doorstaff as already mentoned. Despite the fact that I go in there usually 2-3 times a week, there is still one doorman who always asks me if I have a membership card EVERY time I go up to the door, I mean come on ffs.

I think it would be very interesting for somebody out of the SE to go around to the Fitz this Sat night and see just how many of their ex regs have qualified for the Cash League there. I reckon it'd be around the 20 mark...

Eoghan104 - surprised to hear only two cash tables going on a Friday tbh -Thursday/Friday are usually their busy nights, with 4 cash tables running last Friday

IT's like the worse the emporium gets, the better the fitz is. It's good to see people power working again, although I agree the room in the Emporium is superb.

It all depends on the type of Rugby Jersey you're wearing.

An Irish or Munster jersey would be acceptable anywhere but a Leinster jersey ............ now that's pushing it :D:D

Danny the sooner your realise they dont care about poker players there the better.
All the evidence would sugguest they dont so why play there?
I have only played once there in 8 months and that was freeroll with betdaq.
I cannot fault John or Alex nice guys and very competent but even some of Hitlers generals committed suicide or resigned when the higher authorities would not listen to there common sense or pleas.
Im not saying that the guys have not pleaded there case but its obviously not been heeded.
Poker is a real word of mouth game and the word the last 7 8 months is that the SE is gone to the dogs.
Showing loyalty to somewhere that treats you with disdain is just plain daft,
you are giving your time and rake to aplace that then gives you two fingers when it suits them cop on and walk away like so many else have.

That's the Jackpot, and if you can rule the roost hanging with their cash game regulars you've good reason to hold your head high imo

True they do seem to be going all out trying to make things interesting around there.

I do see your points, but to be honest i dont know any of the "bigwigs" from one another, John/Alex/Arthur/PJ/Jeff or whoever go out of their way to make sure things run smooth and that everybody has an enjoyable game, i like to think of myself as having some sense of loyalty, so that is why i do go back.

But in saying that i do think its time to vary up my play and start to branch out to other places more often.

I remember when the Emporium opened I said that it couldn't be good for the game long term to have all the players so widely spread out, and that you would never get a big filed anywhere as everyone had great structures etc.

what has come of it now though, is that the Fitz has had to improve itself dramatically, by introducing lower reg fees, better food at the break, getting new cash & tournament chips, improving the furniture and the look of the place, and most of all looking after its customers - i.e. cash league, Raffle give aways, free chinese on a Sunday night.

I think one really strong poker room who runs the show properly and doesn;t take advantage of their monopoly is much better than several smaller-medium ones as there will always be a game going, and the tournaments will have larger fields.
