I'll be down at it, its my first player championship

if its anything like the tournaments ive entered so far its quite a high standard

The last tournament i was in, the dublin open 2008 in the whitehouse had Anto McCracken, Gareth Gray, Jack McKenna, Mick Barry, Damien O Connor, Shane O Connor, Keith Rooney

Thats 7 of the biggest names i know of in irish darts, Jacko barry more than likely would have played had he not been in Germany on the PDC circuit.

I Managed to get to the last 32, A bye in the first round, A win in the next and a 4-1 loss to Damien O Connor, had i managed to win that i would have faced shane o connor next. It was all a bit ominous :D

Fair play for entering it, i don't have the nerve to enter something like this yet incase i embarrass myself but I suppose it's all about experience and it can only do you good! Keep at it!

    Cheers

Aye it was nerves that wrecked me, but the 2 legs i played best in i lost

in one leg i hit 4 tons and lost

just couldnt hit a double in the end and that cost me dear, snatching at darts to close out a leg, just complete nerves and inexperience

Got beat 5-1 myself, very nervous for some reason and threw a mixture of 140's and 26's. Need more practice, did you feel it was a bit slow? i was the bottom game on my board and didnt play until 4.00 and to be honest was losing interest at one stage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,182 ✭✭✭dionsiseire

Yeah it was awful slow to be fair, but i had other interests to watch on the day

2 Youths and 1 Senior from my club were playing so i was following them

Dylan Rutledge and Kian Barker were playing in the youths section so i was watching their 2 games (both won the first lost the second)

I was also following Mick Barry's Games, first one was a walkover and the second one was played while i marked the game after i lost (tis the most humiliating thing really, anyone marking has quite clearly lost and half the time you wanna dive off and have a pint but you have to stay and mark for your troubles :D)

So i had some other interests, and i also had a mate there for support so i had some company so i was ok with the length but i only played 1 game and marked and then left, i left at 4.30 so i have to wonder what time the final took place at

The Next one is in Tramore, i would definitely say to other boardsies, the level is half and half, i thought that 50% of the players on the boards i was looking at were very very average throwers and 50% were far better, consistant and clinical than myself (even my practice board game) so i know i have to leap in standard and get rid of the nerves

but definitely its an experience and from the sounds of a lot of you in practice threads seem to be about as consistant or high scoring as i could manage and i didnt feel out of depth in the first round and i think i could have handled most of the players on my boards had i not been so nervous

I am curious as to how this works. There are multiple rounds listed. Can you just register for any one of them along the way ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,182 ✭✭✭dionsiseire

Yes each round is listed as an individual tournament

The whole thing is geared towards qualification for the one in kilkenny which is broadcast on Tv on TnaG

You need to play in 3 tournaments and finish in the top 32 of the rankings to qualify for kilkenny

You register the wednesday before the round coming up with joe coyne (you can print off the form and you send a money order for €30 i believe)

On the day there is a draw on the board, Men divided into 8 boards (yes that was 148 men, 8 boards) you must win your board to progress to the quarter finals

I may have to take my act on the road.

This sounds like a great day out (although it is going to turn into a weekend lol)

Aye well the next one is in tramore, and the lads in my club want to stay in the hotel the night before and night of the tournament, i dunno if i'll be able to afford the 160 quid to stay in a hotel for 2 nights, plus the 30 quid entry, plus food and petrol to play in the tournament

If i find a hotel nearby at a bargain i might do that, but otherwise i think driving 2 and back or train or bus service 2 and back
