I'm heading to Barcelona in December, trying to get a hotel at the moment. Was just wondering if anyone could tell me how far the marina/olympic district is to the centre of Barcelona(walking distance)? Would anyone have any advice on where to stay , only going for 3 nights.

    Thanks

Depends on where abouts you're talking about but anything from 10-30 minutes.

Is it just you or how many are going? Are you looking for a hostel, hotel or to rent an apartment. The best area to stay in imo is called El Born. It's about a 5 minute walk away from La Rambla but far enough away to avoid all the hassle that goes with staying there. It's also arguably the best area in Barcelona for bars and restaurants and so much cheaper than the area around the Ramblas.

If you have a look through some of the other Barcelona threads, you'll find loads of recommendations for places to stay, things to do etc.

Edit: Here's one from Travel Reports and Reviews

Thanks for that, ill have a read of those threads, Theres 2 of us going(mainly for a Barcelona match ), I found a hotel called the H10 Marina , does anyone know anything about it, its a little bit cheaper than some of the hotels near the rambles. But I wonder would I end up paying the difference getting into the centre with taxis and the like or is the metro system any use?

It's a bit far out tbh. I've walked it before and it'd take you about 30 minutes to get from there to the Ramblas. H10 is a chain of hotels and they've got a few in Barcelona. Maybe have a look at the H10 Montcada on Via Laietana and check their rates. I've never stayed there though, so can't really comment.

As for the metro system, it's absolutely brilliant. Last metro leaves the end station at 12am Sunday-Thursday, 2am Friday and runs all night Saturday. Most you'll ever have to wait is about 10 minutes and that's at like 4 on a Sunday morning! Normally, they come every 3-6 minutes. There's also a night-bus that runs every 20 mins or so, so basically there's good quality public transport available 24/7.

Thanks for all this info, i appreciate it. Yeah 30 mins walk is a fair bit especially as Im just spend 3 nights there. Just want a place to sleep really as I wont be in it much(a swimming pool would be a bonus!!) so I'll probably need to find one closer to the center.

The metro system in Barcelona is very good. From memory (it's a couple of years since I was in Barcelona) we went to the Olympic area by Metro rather than on foot. It's situated off a square called Plaça d'Espanya which has a Metro station.
