Hi I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice?

I've recently joined a gym and an instructor showed me some machines to use but he wasn't that helpful tbh.

I've been trying the hiit on the treadmill (2 mins sprint level 9, 1 min jog level 6) for 15 mins and I like that and then the cross trainer for 5 and then treadmill again .

I tried using the weights machines like the ab curl (50 reps, 20 kg) and the arm one for biceps (not sure what its called but you push up..) and i can only do about 10 (10kg)

I'm not really sure what else would be helpful for me or how long I should spend on machines, how many reps, etc....

I'm a female, aged 22, 5"6, 115 lb so not looking to lose anyweight, just get fitter and build muscle.

If anyone could give me some idvice I'd be very grateful! :)

    Hi Liz

The instructor is probably trying to introduce you to the weight machines slowly. As you're new, this isn't a totally bad idea.

My advice to you is to spend the next four weeks getting your fitness level up and getting used to the current weight routine you've been given, and then ask the instructor to show you more weight exercises.

Don't worry too much about how much weight you can lift at the moment. As long as you slowly increase the weight when your body adjusts to the current weight, you'll make progress.

Personally I like mixing light, medium and heavy weight (10+ reps, 6+ reps and 1+ reps, respectivily) as I believe this "shocks" my muscles into growing and is good fun. :)

I appreciate you are full of motivation at the moment and probably want to be doing everything in the gym :) but there is no harm in taking your first few weeks slowly.

If you're still unhappy with your current routine you can always ask the instructor to show you some more exercises.

    Hi AARRRGH,

Thanks very much for your quick reply! Yes I am really motivated at the moment, but I feel like I'm able for more, and sometimes it feels like I'm wandering a bit aimlessly around the gym looking for something to do!

Yea, I'll try mixing up the weights!

Hope I'm not asking too much here, but could anybody have like a little plan that someone starting off like could do when I go to the gym?

    Thanks!

    Hi Liz,

I was in the same boat as you 6 months ago and now I'm flying. If you google THE TRUTH ABOUT ABS you should find some really excellent info. If not pm me an email address and I'll send it to you with some other really good fitness stuff.

    Nicky
