Well as the title suggests im looking to buy a mandolin, however i dont really know what exactly im looking for.

But first i'll give a little info:

Budget: Under €500 (Prefer around 200 tbh)

What I want it for: Love the sound, would like a compact instrument that i could try and teach myself (Please do not offer an alternative please)

What I want: A Decent solid mandolin, that will hold tune for a good bit. I saw electro acoustic ones, wouldnt mind that at all.

Ive seen quite a few Crafter ones around (Like a miniture acoustic guitar) had a noddle around on one and it was lovely, but i dont really know anything about them, so id rather not go on my imeediate preference.

    Any suggestions?

Fender make some lovely mandolins around that price range, the fm52e is an electric one.

Oh one other thing, I 100% want to play it before I buy it, so Thomann's of the cards.

    (Thanks, I'll look into that)

Hi I know you said Thomann is off the cards but I just thought i bring this little gem up for any other people out there considering buying a mando http://www.thomann.de/ie/ibanez_m510ebs.htm 198Euro with a hard shell case. I also have a Gibson Flarion which i got as a present a few years ago but it dosnt have a pup so I bought this one to gig with rather than having to mic up the Gibson. Also sorry to infringe on your thread but does anyone know of a website with good mando tabs on. I know of madocafe.com and folkpunktabs.coms there any more

I'll keep that in consideration, thank, looks good so far.

Fire ahead with the tab request it'll be something to refer back to hopefully. :)

goodwins, capel street have an all solid wood(!!!!! according to the online specs) electro acoustic mandolin for 300, it's by tanglewood and it's an A style, well they did until I bought it.

They most likely have a new one there by now, it's a lot of instrument for the money.
