Hey i was just wondering if anyone on the boards has information on how apprentice barbers work ive looked up places like Knights Barbers And the Grafton Barber's But Still Have a couple of questions like.

    1) Do you pay to be trained ?
    2) Do you get payed dureing your apprentice ?
    3) Weres best to go ?
    4) How long is training ?
    5) If your a barber or starting off did/do you enjoy it ?

Ive asked these question on other forums and got lots of feedback about house of colour, peter marks etc however i just want to cut/style mens hair and not the full works includeing womens hair (TBH i couldnt last more than an hour in a room full of girls yapping):D

    Thanks,

    Sway:rolleyes:

Just learn to do a short back and sides and then whatever the customer asks for just nod and say yes and then give them a short back and sides anyway.

This seems to be the principle most barbers go on.

Oh and it really really helps if you have an incomplete grasp of the English language.

    Hi Sway
I find it hard to believe that you have not got a decent answer to your query
Firstly to become a barber you must have a passion for it and be willing to work hard to acheive your goals.
There is no quick way to acheive this no matter what you have been told.
There are many course's out there, some tell you that after 6 weeks you are qualified to open your own shop, this is simply not true as these course are there for one thing only and that is to take your money and forger about you after that.
Then there are other course's that do an introductory barber course in which will train you with the skills to progress further to the next stage in your training after completing this then you advance to the next level and so forth.
Apprenticeships really are becoming a thing of the past simply because over time barbers have spent time training apprentice's only to leave them when qualified and head to Austrilia etc so barbers now have not the time or will not take an apprentice on for this reason.
Having said that after completing a reputable barber course and passing your practical exam and advancing to the next stage etc you can get employment if you really have put the work in.
If you get employment the barber will rate your work and pay accordingly.
Barbering is a fantastic trade and there is more to it than cutting hair, thers is open razor shaving, indian head massage, hair art, fashion trends etc.
I hope this gives you a little help and if you have any questions please email the Irish Barbers Federation. our site is www.irishbarbersfederation.com
    Kind Regards
