Bringing wedding dress over from UK

    Hello!

I've bought my wedding dress in the UK and I'm due to bring it back to Ireland in two weeks on an Aer Lingus flight. Does anyone know how lenient they are likely to be about me bringing it in the cabin? I've heard that they might be able to hang it with their coats. I really don't want to put it in the overhead bin in case it gets squished. Should I book a seat for my dress? That's an added expensive I could do without. If there is anyone out there who has done this before or works as cabin crew for Aer Lingus I'd love to hear from you!!!

    Thank you. x

I haven't done that before, but I would suggest asking the bridal shop to have the dress ready to transport, i.e. folded or rolled (whichever will work) and put it into a hold-all which will fit in the overhead. My dress was sent here from China and it arrived packaged up in a silk pillow-case, so they can actually fold quite small. Leave it to hang then as soon as you get home to get any folds out. I kept mine folded in it's pillowcase until a week or so before the wedding when I had to get it altered, there were no fold lines in it on the day.

    Hi!

I brought my dress on Aer Lingus a few months ago.
I checked with the ticket sales desk when I got to the airport (Heathrow) to ask if it was ok to bring it through security and onto the plane with me and they said no problem.
Security guys had great fun with it. Would only let me through if I invited them to the wedding! (no doubts as to what was in the bag as it was huge and white and said Bridal across it!)
Then the security belt operator lady wanted to see it (for curiousity - not to search it!)
Then on the flight, I asked them where I should put it, or if they had a cupboard to hang it in or something. But they said to hold onto it and when everyone was seated they would see if there was a spare seat and put it on that. In the end the seat next to me was free so it went there.
So all in all I was very pleased with Aer Lingus.
