Unlike TDs, Councillors do *not* receive a salary. They do receive vouched expenses, and in some cases travel and subsistence expenses, along with other allowances. Thinking of standing next year?

Providing it doesn't pose a conflict of interest. You are also legally obliged to declare any interests in any matters that may come up at council and excuse yourself from discussions or votes in which it may be perceived that you have an interest (work related or otherwise). Things got cleaned up after the 80's/90's.......

Actually, I think there is a salary / allowance for city or county councillors, but its only €20,000-30,000 a year, much less for a town councillor.

Don't forget your annual trip to New York on St. Patricks day ;)

The rate payers don't mind as you'll tell them you are there to "attract business", oh yeah.........
