hey everyone so here is my story/dilemma

I am living with my longterm GF for the last couple of years(our own house),I am in construstion and i lose my job start of this year,so I eventually get round to aplying for dole in march(was really working hard on gettin a job) and am backpayed from January, now here is my problem, they only deem me entitled to E61 per week and reckon my GF should pay our mortgage:mad:.now our mortgage after relief is E385 per week,my GF wage is E400 per week.is this the norm that they expect us to live on and pay bills etc.. on E76 per week.i have appealled it but to no avail:(.advice appreciated pls
now my savings have ran out and we are finding it really hard, literally on the breadline
    thanks for reading my rant....:)

hey , i know how you feel. Ive recently applied and cos i live with my boyf theyre gonna do the same to me....it really sucks.
Could you ask them to means test you again? I know when they did mine, they asked about savings...so im assuming they took your savings into account too. Now you say theyre all gone, so surely they should take that into consideration. Tell them your means have changed since the last time.

Does your mortgage protection not kick in as you were laid off?
Talk to them and explain the situation,it has to be better then that.

Unfortunately, as you are part of a couple, your girlfriend's earnings are assessed as means. There is no way around this, particularly as you have exhausted the appeals procedure. Really horrible situation for you both. Only advice I can think of is the same as Moonbeam's - have you let your mortgage provider know about your predicament?

have you contacted your community welfare officer? you might be entitled to supplementary welfare to help with the mortgage. Otherwise, same advice as above....speak to your mortgage provider. do you have mortgage protection? they might have option to freeze payments for a few months.

unfortuantly i dont have morgtate protection and i am not entitled to anything extra to help wit my morgtate(already applied:mad:) i am in the process of renting my house ironically to the council:( and moving to oz for a couple of years.but what really annoys me is the fact that i HAVE to move away otherwise in time i will lose my house and ultimitly i would have to move back into my parents house,I am also in contact with my lender and they have requested our income and expenditure(which at the moment more going out than in)and may go to an interest only (fingerss crossed)

    all suggestions much appreciated;)

Many companies will only give you reduced cover on mortgage protection- e.g. no benefit in the event of sickness or redundancy- but cover if you die etc......
Its a bit of a minefield......

The health boards have community welfare officers who award family income supplement and mortgage interest supplement, medical cards etc. to ensure household income doesn't fall below a certain level, separate to the social welfare system for some reason. I haven't dealt with them myself yet so I don't have much information on them, but I would say definitely go to your local health centre and check it out. Best wishes to you and yours

Ya its very unfair. It seems you are better off to both be unemployed in this country!! You could keep trying with the welfare cause I've heard that if you keep pleading your case & showing them you can't survive that you might get some help

You didn't say how big your house is but have you considered renting out rooms to help pay the mortgage. Unfortunately this would be counted as income & would reduce your welfare payment but you could be better off than you are at the moment.

our house isa three bed semi but the other rooms are empty and we cant afford to furnish them...tried renting them unfurnished but nobody interested:(
really dont see any other option than to emmigrate!!!
maybe if i put on a foreign accent to the appeals office id get the full wack and they rpobarly throw in a medical card too...useless gits

Surely if you lost your job/laid off/made redundant you applied for (JB) Job Seekers Benefit? I thought this was not a means tested benefit and that the (JA) Job Seekers Allowance was means tested.
Someone please correct me if I am wrong?

Jobseekers Benefit is only payable if you fit the criteria. It's not a given.
