Bay Window Problem

Am at the stage now where I need to get my bay window sorted. If it was standard it would be fine but it is going the full length of the house i.e it is going from the floor of my living room to the roof of my bedroom above with a concrete slab between the two rooms and block work between the two windows. The block layer has recommended getting a steel catnic done to take the weight of the slab in the middle and the window above-with steel poles supporting the catnic from below, my problem is that this is going to slow me down as I have to wait for this to be made up. My engineer has said to go with what the block layer wants. Has anyone had any experience with these full length bay windows and if so how have the managed to sort them, is there any other way around it??

This is a difficult, if not dangerous question to answer, without see the drawings.

I'd advise you to listen to your Engineer, he / she is certifying the compliance of the construction.
"My engineer has said to go with what the block layer wants."

Why weren't the steel lintels ordered before the floor was poured? (All blockwork would have been set out on site)

engage a professional to detail the problems out......

    preferrably an Architectural Technician.

Agree with the comments above - the engineer has to sign this off & needs to get involved.
FWIW, I had a similar (by the sounds of it) square bay - got 2 square bay lintels & poles made up, had the engineer double check their spec, didn't take too long to order & deliver. Once installed, the GF one held the piece of hollowcore for the bay & the block work upto the 1st floor cil. The next lintel is "lighter" as it doesn't need to carry as much over the 1st flr window.
The blockie needs to hold off building up the bay corners until the baseplates are in place. After that, bob's your uncle...
