Interesting find. I've never heard of it. Do you have a source or are you just going to wait on ebay? I love odd musical games. Will get Rez one of these days :)

Next in line for me is Metal Slug 3. Last of the Metal Slug carts I plan on getting.

Heh indeed, reached their peak with 3. Kind of hard to top a game like that. (I Still prefer 1 though!)

Nazca did the best job with the games, well they did make gunforce and In the hunt after all! well with Irem that is but this is getting abit off track now!

Back on track! so have you got ms1,2,x and finally going to 3 or did you skip 2 or x?

I was going to skip 2 because of the slow down, but saw a guy selling it on ebay France for cheap. So there's currently a copy of it sitting down in the post office for me.

That makes 1,2,X. Trying to figure out now which one to put in the 6 slot. All 3?! no...maybe...hmmm!

that is the offical reason they made the six slot so all the metal slugs can be in one warm cab.:D, hopefully your post office sorting office isn't that far away i remember mine being a 20 minute Cab drive! lol.

    Do VC games count:p

If so I'm curentlly unable to make my mind up between Castlevania 3, Megaman 3 and Punchout!!

For all those who have yet to try it, get Fantavision for the PS2, not quite retro but a great music game, very relaxing, and ten times better than that Boom Boom Rocket muck they tried to pass off on us a year or two back!

    My next retro purchase?
I'd like a modded PS1 actually! Not quite the same, but I could play all of those jap PSone games I missed.
I'd love a proper copy of Star Control 2 for the 3DO and maybe Road Rash for the MegaCD.
I'd like to pick up some more MVS carts too, a later copy of KOF, the whole Metal Slug series and Pulstar and Blazing Star for it too, we'll have to see how far the money stretches.

    unfortunatly not.

    Ciderman

Fantavision is a good game remember seeing it when it came out with the japanese ps2's 8 years ago was a good launch title with Ridge Racer V.

And if you do get a japanese ps1/Modded machine you should try out the game Panzeer bandit's basically Ps1's awnser to Guardian hereoes very very good! Just like most consoles the ps1 had some really good Import freindly games out there.

It's all about finding cheap Retro games with this resccesion were having!:pac:

Fantavision is a fantastic game! Well, not really but it is good craic, and reminds me in a way of Rez. I like to play those games back to back.

The next Retro game I'd like to acquire? It's hardly retro but WipEout 2097 for either the Saturn or Playstation 1. I have WipEout Fusion on the PS2 and I really liked it but apparently 2097 is a much better version. However I am supposed to be saving for a new TV ;)

Jesus if you liked the fairly crap fusion you'll love 2097. Get the PS1 version since it has all the licensed Sony Music music tracks and looks better.

Anyone else remember getting a demo disc with the ps1 and playing that one track in 2097 over and over?

I think I played the demo more than the actual game.

It also had the first level of Die Hard Trilogy. Played that to death too.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,679 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

Wipeout 2097 is probably the zenith of the series so far, very good indeed.
DieHard Trilogy, well the light gun section is great, the rest of it stinks though.

Get VibRibbon on the PS, and Parappa the Rappa, Sunny Funny and all that!

Psygnosis made so much great stuff, including Destruction Derby with reflections, G-Police and its excellent sequel, and Wipeout and its sequels.

Speaking of Recession and Fantavision, I have a copy lying around here somewhere??? No box, just the disc and instruction book. I got in the "preowned" bin in Game for 5 pound sterling, about 4 year ago, I think?

    Any offers?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,332 ✭✭✭valleyoftheunos

Randomly enough I found a copy of Wipeout2097 in my mates place yesterday, he let me take it home and I hiooked the old PS1 up for the first time in years to give it a shot.

It sure is fast but I preferred the track design of the original.

I've given up on my PS2 collection.
    50 games, mostly kind-of-cult-classics.

All bought for about 15euro each.

BUT I HAVE NO TIME TO PLAY THEM.

Also, Mad Maestro. Anybody who likes Gitaroo Man, try this; it's frickin' hard!

Ooh, the Die Hard 2 bit. I loved that. That's it, I'm playing that this weekend.

Also, KO Kiki, I'm the same. I'm pushing 50 ps2 games now - picking em up for €3/4/5 in Gamestop whenever i see something interesting - but can't get near the bloody things at the moment.

I also really really want to get my hands on Secret Weapons Over Normandy, deadly game, was a bit like Colony Wars. 'Cept it had Nazi's.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,679 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

I think I paid about 6.99 for Secret Weapons Over Normandy in Gamestop, preowned,
I originally bought it new and finished it, loved that game, then nostalgia had to have it included in my collection, so picked it up again. Made by the guy that brought us X-Wing and Tie Fighter and even X-Wing Vs Tie Fighter on the PC.

As for more retro purchases, I'm always on the lookout for some more Megadrive and Snes stuff, just so much of it now is all old copies of Fifa 95 and Street Fighter II, not the good stuff, like F1 Exhaust Heat or Super Indiana Jones

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,749 ✭✭✭CCCP^

Yeah I had it ages ago and traded it in, what a mistake :/ I had gotten to the last level too, was hooked. Oh the folly.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,616 ✭✭✭97i9y3941

bought the rather excellent metal slug anthology on the ps2 from ebay a while back, loved it

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,749 ✭✭✭CCCP^

I think aside from Secret Weapons Over Normandy and WipEout 2097, it has to be Street Fighter Ex Plus Alpha. I'm no SF veteran but when my friends got together for this game it was very serious business! I really liked this game alot. I remeber playing it for the first time down in someone's garage with a few cans of dutch gold in me and thinking it was some kind of knock-off SF because it had all these wierd characters!

I also had Dead Or Alive on PS1. Which I bought purely because the wimmin's bittie's bounced!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,616 ✭✭✭97i9y3941

alpha anthology on the ps2 was an excellent compilation, doesnt have the ex plus do

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,679 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

Pity you never cleared Secret Weapons, the unlockables are great, namely a tie fighter instead of the normal WWII tech, complete with blasters!

As for having too many games, I have over 100 PSone games and 140 PS2 titles, every N64 game I ever wanted, pretty much all killer no filler, and do you think I'll ever get to playing them all?
Nope, nice to have them in case the mood ever takes me though!

Jesus you didn't like that did you? Street Fighter Ex Plus Alpha was awful. Well it wasn't a patch on the 2D games anyway.

I wonder how many of them are army men games?

Seriously though, the real problem for both the PS and PS2, probably includes most of the disc media based consoles, is the inevitable lack of save space once your collection reaches a certain point.
I have 3 mem cards for the PS2 and they are packed, I had a 32mb sony card but it failed and I lost all the saves on it, boo hoo!
The PS is even worse, the card being so small.

At least the 360 and PS3 have expandable memory, whilst the older cart based consoles have on board battery backed up ram.

so true,i remember some psone games they took up the whole memory card, simcity 2000 and pga 97 springs to mind, spare a thaught for amiga cd32,that only had 1kb of save memory available!

If any one you are ever stuck for ps2 memory cards, check out dealextreme. They're extremely cheap & postage is free. The stuff from that site is usually very good quality too.

I liken Retr0gamer to a connisseur of fine wine's. "No, no...this Shiraz is simply lifeless!". Except it's "No no no Halo is ****z!" :)

I like that version. Based on it's own merits it's a decent enough game.
