They sound like a pretty disturbed group if all they do is watch people commit suicide.

It's almost like chuggers only now they come to your door :(

Ask for a registered charity number
Ask for documents and check for a landline number
Dunno if they'd have a VAT number. I wouldn't think so but you can ask
Think you need a garda permit to do charity collecting, ask for that too.

Edit: That's a long list but if they are geniune they won't mind!

Anyway, the HSE should be spending money on these services, not something that should need charity.

Was this around the Firhouse/Tallaght/D24 area by any chance??? There is a crowd of very pushy chancers doing the rounds in that area collecting sponsorship for the homeless and "the lads on drugs" recently. I've run into them a few times in the last few weeks, up in the Square once and outside a local shop another time.

Jaysus just because someone doesn't conform to your idea of a charity collector doesn't mean he's a scumbag out on the rip.
People doing scams can look respectable if you ask me its the posh looking ones you've to keep an eye on. If they're only charity collectors where are they getting all the money for big cars and flash clothes!!

Jesus, I wouldn't like somebody hanging around my house like that.

These days its hard to know who to trust or not.

Bogus clothes collectors without charity numbers.
Guys changing credit card machines in shops.
People with paintings telling you they are not selling them but want you to just "look" at them and give them your opinion. They ended up asking for money. Ran the Fvckers!

Who said scumbag on the rip?

I'm well aware of the diverse 'scumbag' definition, and I made no such distinction. I caught him talking about the North and Republic setting up a helpline, and I got a look at his badge with just a photo and name, no registration number.

Does that seem suspicious? Absolutely. We get this all the time, about three stickers a week for charity
    cash on the kilo
clothes collections. I'm getting a bit tired of it, and with the estate robberies (including our own house recently) I'm inclined to report him.

My approach to charity is generally benefit of the doubt, if you want to post something from experience of 'posh looking ones' go ahead. Chances are if he called with the same setup as the guy just gone, I would have politely told him to fúck off my front step also.

maybe theyre wealthy and are doing the charity collecting for free to give something back??

I just got someone there too here in Longford collecting money for "Suicide Watch" . I thought it looked suspect when all the previous people had supposedly given €20 to €30 and there were no name I recognised from the area. When I questioned him he didn't look at me when he was saying his speil either. Defo thought there was something up.

You should always ask for the registered charity number before giving money to anyone collecting door to door, or just throw scalding water at them

    That explains the necrophilia...

Seriously though, no sign of any such charity existing, at least in terms of Web presence. MyCharity is down and I have no idea if they're registered. Steer clear.

EDIT: What URL said. Curse my slow typing! Not as bad as being scalded by an angry URL though :P

Think I will try both the former and the later next time!:)
