The goggles ! They do nothing !

So now there's a completely automated way for people to make their pictures look like over-processed candy floss. Although in fairness I stopped watching at the very first point when he took a perfectly reasonable picture and made it look like ****, so maybe there's some worthwhile stuff later on.

I saw it on pix.ie on a VW Beetle, and it looked good, so I thought, would advertisers be lured into doing this to sell their product....!

I tend to see a lot of conversations like this about the place so I will stick in my two pence worth about advertising and the seemingly fickle nature thereof.

First off, the majority of companies in the world have a Brand team. This team decides on EVERYTHING that might represent a company, from outgoing letter heads, to internal desk drops to how the product and company as seen. Brand is EVERYTHING!

Each and everytime a new product is launched, the relevant Brand team will have spent more man hours than makes sense deciding on exactly how it fits in with the overall image of the company, how they want it to be marketed and the general guidelines such as colours, type faces etc that will go with it.

This all then gets handed over to the in house Marketing Communications team, they come up with the more specific in house detail for Marketing, decide exactly how they are going to market the product, to whom, and why. This will all go back and forth between both teams and the relevant Directors until they are all happy with how they are approaching the way the product will be pushed on the public.

Finally, the Advertising Agencies that the company in question has a relationship with will receive the brief, the product info and the relevant deadlines to have their pitches in.

So, what the advertising guys want to do really comes last in the equation and traditionally most companies don't have interal creative advertising departments as they would only be used a very, very small amount.

So, imo, as answer to your question, nope.

I looks good when applied correctly, but traditionally rebranding is suicide.

I've tried this, gotten mildly intrigued with it and gotten bored of it in the space of about a week.

Here's a series of the same image treated with a few different Topaz presets. I deliberately chose an awkward image, bright sun at lunchtime on a clear day, lots of very bright highlights, deep shadows and washed out colours. I don't think the processing has added a lot to any of them, except maybe a bit of detail in the low lying mist or cloud. Nothing in other words that a bit of careful traditional PS work(!) wouldn't accomplish.

For the most part they look overdone, too saturated and noisy. I don't think I'll be buying this when the trial period is up.

Their noise reduction program looks interesting though, I haven't had a good play with it yet.
