    Yes I realise i've spelt bannanas/banannas wrong.
Anyway why do people say bruise like a peach surely a ba.....na would be more appropriate? Also it would give alliteration to the phrase with the b's

I can use both in a sentence.

Peaches = bananas or Peaches is bananas.
(God help her father Bob Geldof!)
I checked the spelling in a dictionary!

That's alliteration not assonance. I've just saved you from embarrassing yourself at some fancy poetry reading at some point in the future.

Because "bruise like a banana" invokes some shocking imagery that makes men go breathless and reach for their nethers. Or that just me?

Thank you. So what does assonance mean?

It's because you can spell peaches but not bananas .

Very similar to alliteration but with vowels rather than consonants. Usually repeating the same vowel sound within words. Alliteration is usuallu repeating a consonant sound at the beginning of words.

Same thing but with an ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss sound

    eg "Sammy Squirrel smells smelly"

EDIT: hmmmm, maybe i'm thinking of something else here?

similarly 'molested as a choirboy' should be changed to 'molested as a maddie'

If you dropped a banana on the floor it wouldn’t bruise but a peach would and bruises realy easily. It bruises easily as do some people that’s where the phrase comes from a banana doesn’t bruise easily.

They do, they bruise like... well... bananas... granted you dont eat the outer skin of a banana but they discolour very easily (which i presume is a sign of bruising)

And if you dropped a rotten peach on the floor it would go squelch or splat. Now who was paying attention in poetry class and can tell me what that effect is called?

No the blackness is from ripening not from bruising.

Its like when Im riding your Ma and I give her a few kidney punches while on the job it leaves bruises but If she shuffled of this mortal coil and I was riding her then her discoloration would be because of her over ripeness. See?
