I was a little disappointed with him today. He didn't seem to pick up after travelling reasonably well and jumping ok. He might appreciate some better ground but if he is to be up to winning graded races then he needed to be winning toady. It will be interesting to see how the likes of Cousin Vinny and Zaarito will get on.

Of last years bumper horses, I'd have to say Lilywhitedancer has been the most disappointing. We see this most years good cheltenham bumper horses struggle when moving into hurdle company and usually fail to make any real impact at the novice hurdle events the follwing year.

Cousin Vinnie will probably prove me wrong though.

He was bad today for sure, unless good ground brings significant improvement i think he can forget about being competitive in decent races this season.

I have a feeling 2 miles is going to be too sharp for Cousin Vinny and he might well end up in the Sunalliance Hurdle or whatever stupid name its called now. Generally the last few bumper winners havent fared well over obstacles though, horses like Liberman, Total Enjoyment and Hairy Molly spring to mind. I wouldnt be overly surprised if he was a big flop this year.

Well it didnt help me last year as I only backed him at Chellers!! He was galloping with a few of our own a couple of weeks back. Looked well. This could be a big season for the yard with plenty of graded performers in the yard, Big Zeb, Zaarito, Brave Inca, Kimberlite King, Megans, the bumper mare etc etc.

I can confirm that the reason Corskeagh Royale under-performed was for precisely the same reasons Jered and Silverburn dissapointed - they were all in my ten to follow :D

I heard a few people say in Cheltenham the last weekend that the Cousin Vinny lads turned down ridiculous money from McManus for the horse too. Does anyone have Mullins racingpost stable tour (or has it even been in it yet)? If so what did he say about Cousin Vinny

Colonel, that probably isn't true. They would have been asked if he was for sale. If the syndicate says no then that's that. If the syndicate says yes then they are asked a price or if not McManus may make an offer but only if the syndicate is absolutely certain they want to part with him. So it is probably likely that the syndicate think they would be offered a certain amount but it is not McManus' style to make an offer as it marks the cards for every owner in the country as to the current market value of a horse. It's a game of chess we played with him once. And best of luck to them. I hope they have plenty of success with him if they turned down big money.

I for one, am patiently waiting for Zaarito to reappear (and 10 year old Brave Inca, prove 'em wrong!).

    From the 20th of October:

"He's still a bit backward but is doing everything right. I'd imagine it will be the second half of next month, at the earliest, before he makes his hurdling debut. He did very well last season and became the first horse to win the champion bumpers at the Cheltenham and Punchestown festivals. He will start off over 2m and we will work our way up in trip with him if needs be. His pedigree suggests he will stay further, but he showed plenty of pace last season."
