Hi, interested in learning how to sing properly. Does anyone know any vocal coaches in carlow, what's the going rate and how can i tell if the person is any good? And is there any way of going about learning how to sing properly without using a vocal coach? Thanks

    Hey,

Is it classical/operatic training you want or more mainstream? Also do you want to go for the exams/grades? Classical will cost btw 35 - 50 euro an hour for a good teacher imo, tends to be cheaper in rural areas. Your best bet is to go on recommendations, check with the music dept in your local school and ask them if they know of anyone, thats how I found my first teacher when I lived in Donegal.

If you're willing to travel to Dublin then pm me and I'll send you details of my previous teacher - she was excellent and only 35 euro p/h - and can prepare you for the grades at no extra cost.

    Hope that helps :)

Thanks for the info. I am interested in something more mainstream and not willing to go out to dublin for it. I ll go check out the local music school like you suggested.

there are two types of singing that are best for mainstream (believe me I trained classically and it really takes away any individual style you have - I really regret ever doing it) singing - Bel Canto (Sinead O'Connor trained in it) and Speech Level Singing. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=speech+level+singing&search_type=&aq=0&oq=speech+l

both use your own accent and your own voice and really develop your own unique style.

I would try and find a singing teacher that does either of those in Carlow.
