When does temp promotion become permanent?

I have been stepped up to supervisor level for 15 months now. In this 15 months I have bent over backwards to do my best.

I asked a couple of weeks ago about clarification on my position and was told that it was still a temporary solution and that sooner or later I would be stepped down again, but if the position became permanent that I would be an ideal candidate and they hoped I would go for it, as I was doing such a good job.

Prior to stepping up, there was a recruitment drive for the position in which one guy was taken on and I was told I would be trained to the positions standards at the same time as him, with a view to being able to step up and down when needed to give the company flexability. (he was new to the company, I was with them 5 years, so if he didnt work out they still had me)I was under the impression that I was therefore going to be in a position to slot straight in when another position came along. It is one of those jobs that is highly technical and takes new guys 6-7 months training before you can even be signed off to do the daily stuff. Anyway, a few weeks later after this drive I was stepped up and have been there ever since.

Anyway, the question is, is there a point where the company have to either offer you the role permanently or drop you back down. Apart from pay, all other conditions (pension, health cover etc ) are at the lower job level. Can anyone point to the specific legislation that covers this if it exists?

    thanks for the help.

sounds to me as if their using ya mate. Why train in new person when they have you all along. Obviously you can do the job. Until someone else comes along.

    Hi.
Just wondering if you ever got an answer on this? I was in a simaler position where I work for 25 months and when the permanent position came up I got passed over by new manager and wondering if there was a law they had broken by not giving it to me

I know it's been a while since you put it up so just wondering
