    http://www.usedcarsni.com/21918622

alternatively there is this one, which i prefer but the miles are fairly high... or should i be worrying about the miles?

I don't think 8,000 pounds is cheap for a 02 530D. When you change that into euro and add vrt your going to be up on bigger money. If there was ever a time to be buying down south, especially those Bmw's that have been hit hard, now is the time.

Here is one down South just as cheap if not cheaper:

8,000 pounds is 9,300 euro. +vrt, it's alot cheaper, and lower miles.

It has a cd player too though, probably a changer in the boot. Not uncommon for some cars to have had both a cd and cassette player up to recently. My last car did and it was 03.

I'd say alot of them had the radio-cassette/cd option, as the tape was probably still be drained out. It's either a cassette, with a cd changer. Or just a single cd, with a cassette underneath.

Edit: Go away Bazz haha :P

o we think that either is worth a closer look guys or as stated i'll propberbly find better value down south?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 67 ✭✭Boots2006

    Hi positivenote,

As you know, I recently sold a 2003 530d (down South!). The going rate would appear to be "cheapest on carzone less 15%" - and thats around what I sold at (straight sale). Its still on CBG.ie as I haven't got around to telling them its sold, and I haven't exactly been inundated with nuisance enquiries!

The VRT rate is shocking on these things, as the OMSP is high, and the emissions are at the high end also. I don't think you'll save anything by importing yourself. You might pick up a bargain for a previous UK import (imported already by someone else back a while), as you'll get the Irish price, but the UK spec!

Fantastic car BTW, wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Holy sh!tballs - they're going for that little now:eek:. It wasn't that long ago when 530ds were selling for a lot more than that.

I swore I'd keep my E34 till it dies, but when there's that much value around the place I'll definately be upgrading next year, I can afford to do it and I love getting lots of bang for my buck.

As I'll be looking for a petrol 5 series with a manual gearbox, and since both these things are very undesirable in 5 series type cars I expect I'll find some great bargains next year when I go car hunting:D!

I'm so excited by the thought of buying an E39 next year now that I can afford it, I pity anyone that's near me between now and next January/February though:D!

AC Car Sales are very good - BMW specialists, worth keeping an eye out for anything that comes in to them, as it shows a certain level of interest in the car by the previous owner ...

Considering the lack of spec on that car, no climate control, MFSW or leather interior, I think that asking price is pretty expensive.

I know of a fella offered €16,000 for a 04 530D (new shape) with 70k miles and a full m-tec kit. He was happy with it.

A Tip about buying 530d's for NI.

A lot of the diesel up there is Washed Diesel - and i've had a 530D that the injectors went KAPUTT on due to this.
Not a cheap fix either. Thread carefully.
    Wonderfull car tho'.

11k for a manual ?? And it doesn't state it has leather, so I'll guess it doesn't have it.........bonkers.

I like the other one though - I don't think a newer plate is worth paying for, tbh, buy on condition only.

530D's with m sport package are tradign hands for next to nothing atm ( as they like 4x4's cant be shifted )

10-12.5k is the current dealer price as my mate got rid of one stupidly in the effort to get a porshe....

    Worst desission ever imho.

Er no. But if he'd have rung me, I'd have traded one of my 968's for a 530d - it would have been cheaper for both of us !!

    Still would, in fact.

I'm no expert on them, sorry, but I don't reckon you're mad. The thing about the 00 one is it's probably the least attractive to most would-be buyers - no M-kit, spoilers, std wheels. IMHO, they're all a ++ to you, as the car is still the same, underneath, and hopefully hasn't been messed with. A bog std car is nearly a novelty these days........

    +1.

Given the way the price of used cars has fallen recently and how dealers are desperate to shift whatever they have, there is absolutely no reason why the OP can't be picky and go for one with plenty of gadgets.

Leather, climate control, MFSW, Sport pack(E39s *never* had an M Sport option, it was always called Sport) are all things I'd be looking for if I were buying one. Automatics are considered desirable, but I'd never buy one because I'm not a lazy old sod;)!

They're a terriffic car, dearer than your average car to run, and prone to the odd electrical glitch, but find a good one and I know you'll absolutely love it:)!

+1 on that last point. A 530D imho has got to be bought with an Auto box OP, tiptronic at least.
    I've had 530D's, now have a 535D - an oil burning beast.
    Any questions, just pm me.
