I have a canon EOS 400d, what would be a good lens to use for taking shot of indoor sports at low light ie boxing ?

This really belongs in Photography/Main so I'm going to move it where you'll get more constructive responses.

I suppose 50mm f1.8 would be my first bet depends on where you will be situated

I was looking at a 30 mm f1.4 which I was thinking would be good for close ups at concerts so that might be good for ring side shots

for a little further back an 80mm f1.8

I suggesting cheaper prime lenses here as you are probably not a pro given you are using a 400d (I have one myself I've done gig photography myself in fairly low light using the 50 mm f1,8 with reasonable results I'm thinking it would be brighter in a boxing match so that might do you.

In terms of price it would go like this from cheapest to dearest

    50mm f1.8
    30mm f1.4
    50mm f1.4
    85mm f1.8

Some of the f2.8 zooms would suit too
    Sigma 18-50mm f2.8EX

I asked a similar question here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055385698 a few weeks ago and got some great responses. You might find something useful in that thread. I ended up buying the 400D and am using the kit that came with it. I'm getting ok shots but nothing so far thats got the wow factor - (am only a beginner though). I'm going to get the 50mm f1.8 lens for Christmas and see how that goes.

30mm 1.4 is my fav for ringside boxing shots. I have a 85 1.8 too but I feel its too long for the ring. I see a lot of guys using 70-200 2.8 lenses ringside.
