Apparent;ly its a random thing this year.
There is one kid somewhere in the game who is a complete beast.
But he's randomly generated in every game under a different name and for a different club.
Means you have to actually use your scout network instead of using t'internet

But aren't there any new real wonderkids in that 16-17 age range this year? Arsenals Wilshire for example? No doubt he's marked wonderkid/promising.

ah jeezzzz...those of us with a life so and can't dedicate 24/7 to it will probably have a tougher time winning silverware this time round :p

well, if you don't mind using the net - you may as well use the FM Genie Scout. It isn't out yet, but will be out soon. www.genie.fm

heh, when I got board of FM08 I started to use something like that. It's actually pretty interesting watching the game's response when you assemble a team of world beaters. the re-ranking system tends to put the other facets of the game much more to the fore, after a few seasons it tends to almost eliminate whatever competitive advantage you've gained I've found.

lets you look at a players PA and CA, the hidden attributes that determine how good a player gets. some of these style of tools let you search the database for players of a certain PA etc.

hows james mccarthy for hamilton? i'd say he has -9 potential at least

can you not just turn off the attribute masking when starting a game??

Isnt attribute masking the hiding of stats until you have scouted a player?

yes. so what i'm suggesting is turn that off so there's no need for genie scout...or does genie scout do more??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,836 ✭✭✭Vokes

Attribute masking hides some attributes of not wellknown players in-game.

The attributes that leninbenjamin is talking about are never shown ingame regardless. Things like Sportsmanship, Adaptability, Current Ability, Potential Ability, Injury Proneness, Professionalism.

A lot of these things essentially define the personality of a player.

these are different attributes. SofaK sums it up nicely. basically the attributes you see in game don't define how good a player is, they are related to the hidden attributes but they don't give the compete story. GenieScount, FMscout and FMminiScout all show the hidden attributes that allow you to see the complete picture of how the player will fit into your current squad, and how good he is likely to become.

CA is current ability, and PA is potential ability (the maximum CA a player can achieve if you train and develop him well), both a score between 0 and 200. the actual footballing, mental and physical attributes you see in game are all determined by the CA and PA. and then there's the other hidden mental attributes as SofaK mentions, that determine the personality of the player and how likely that player is of actually fulfilling his full PA.

I signed McCarthy for QPR and so far he's been very unimpressive. I know he's only 17 and I should have loaned him out but he should be able to handle teams like doncaster in the championship. Mid season now and hes played around 15 games with and average of 6.38 and 1 goal.

On my monthly summary my board always let me know they are dissapointed with his signing.

Started with Arsenal. In january now and top pf the table!!!! weeeeeeeeeeeee.
Signed mario balotelli off inter for 12 mil. Hes only 17 but it already lookes like a bargain considering his age and hes scored 5 goals this season and top of the assists with 7.

Also, Angelo palombo- very solid dmf with a wicked shot. Perfect sigining for Arsenal imo....

for 12mil? seriously? in the demo my scouts said he'd cost well over 20.

I got him for 9.5 mil I think. :) They kept asking for 14 mil plus but I kept offering 7-8 mil then I offerd 8 mil and other small bonuses to come to 9.5 mil. I then said non negotiable and it worked.

I love him already lol, he scored a free kick last minute against chelsea from 30 yards out!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,233 ✭✭✭Dont Ban Me

I got him for 10.5, he is unreal like scary  unreal!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 137 ✭✭danburke

I got him for 10mil..Inter kept asking for 17 but I could only offer 10 as thats all Man Utd will allow you at the start..

He's class..unsure where to play him though once Ronaldo comes back..prob up front i suppose :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,233 ✭✭✭Dont Ban Me

I play him on the right of midfield and he scores and is getting loads of assists too. He's a bloody magician :D

    I know i answered you in the other thread, but in case there are others who've only read this thread and are interested;

the minus PA numbers can be thought of as a random number generator, the random bit is represented by the minus sign and the digits represent the bands within which the actual generated number should lie. All young players in the database (usually 18 and below) don't actually have their PA set, but a random number between 0 - 200 is generated upon starting the game. players with a PA of -10 represent the most desireable players and the ones who are likely to become world class in time. -1 is the worse and these players rarely get offered a professional contract. My understanding is that SI chose this method to introduce a element of variation and realism in the game, as opposed to hardcoding everyones PA.

Interesting to see Brek Shea is a -9.
Didn't even look at his PA, just picked him up for the craic. Savage :D

Having a go with Real and bought Veloso for 17m and Balotelli for 12.5m.

Hoping this will help me win a few trophies. :D

It's a shortlist file. You need to import inside your Football Manager game.

Go to your shortlist in the game (under Manager>Search).

Click on Shortlists in the bottom right of the screen and select Import Shortlist. Then Navigate to wherever the file is and hey presto.

    Easy there sunshine.
I could just as easily rattle of the names of six completely obscure south american wonderkids. Does that mean I would be twice the football fan you are?
    Chill out.

Heard of Clifford and McCarthy, don't think either really deserve Wonderkid status tbh.
However never heard of your man Hourihane.
Who do they all play for in RL as a matter of interest?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,334 ✭✭✭HalloweenJack

Conor Clifford is a youth team player at Chelsea.

James McCarthy is a first teamer for Hamilton.

Never heard of your man Hourihane.

u said ''were u expecting there to be any'' in a presumably sarcastic fashion, prob meaning 'its ireland u could hardly expect any talented yung players'

i then informed you we had 3 players selected for the u-17 team of the tournament which means we have players in the elite bracket in underage football.

nothing to do with knowing more or anything like that.

Clifford and McCarthy aren't wonderkid material. Simple as

They don't have to be a 'wonderkid' to be rated as -9. McCarthy is defintely a better prospect than say someone like Joe Mattock. A 17yo that has played over 80 games and has been linked with the likes of Barcelona and Liverpool should at the very least be a -9. Don't you think?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27 defness

Davide Santon. 17 yr old wizard from inter milan. Can play as a 'natural' anywhere on the right hand side. Picked him up for 10m. Bit pricy but worth it!!

    Carlos Vela is unbelievable too

my favorite player is Balotelli right now, only mid way through november and hes got 16 goals in the premiership , im conceding alot but im scoring more

    Joe hart/Asenjo/Leo franco

    Ricards/santon dunne/zapata/caceres/kompany Marcelo/Caceres

    Fernandes/veloso/M johnson(retrained)

    SWP/zabaleta marcelo/Robinho/Vela

    Mati fernandez/elano/Vela/Robinho

    Vela/Balotelli/Jo/Robinho/Benjani

thats the team i have with man city on november of the first season

i play a 4 -5-1 and its successful so far, hammered chelsea/liverpool/arsenal/man utd , scoring average of 3.5 goals per game but thats alot to do with my teams tactics and attacking mentality. can't wait to see how many goals i get by the end of the season!
