A Second Bass

    Hey All,
Since i last posted, been doing some saving, etc, and decided i could probably reach about.. 1000 euro for a second bass. Currently using a Cort Action, which is pretty good, but the sound quality could be better.
I was wondering if you guys could suggest a good next bass? For preference, i'd like 24 frets, just because it's what i'm used to. Also, have you got any good ideas for amplifiers?

    Thanks,
    _Kar.

Have to recommend Warwick all the way. Very expensive though you get what you pay for. With your budget you'd be better giving ebay a gander for a second hand. :)

If you're not dead set on 24 frets you could get an American Standard Jazz or P-Bass for just over €900 from England with the exchange rate at the moment. A deluxe p-bass would be about €1050 delivered, that's 22 frets. A Warwick Corvette $$ is within your price range too.

For about €1000 - €1150~ you could get a bolt-on Spector ReBop 4 made in Czech Republic. They're active and have 24 frets. Very cool basses used by a lot of pros!

In the boardsie tradition, I shall mention Bacchus. Very popular here. Always look beautiful too.

The cort A4 is a good bet I'd say, since they've started making them with mahogany bodies they're much more cut out to be a professional gigging bass. The all maple ones were too pretty-toned and couldnt cut through as well as the new ones.

funny you should say that, i was looking at an A4, actually. Seems i can get one on Thomann for about 850.. But, i would kinda like to try it out.. do you know of anywhere that stocks them?

    Thanks,
    _Kar.

Dare I say a MM Bongo or maybe a G&L tribute.

+1 for the G&L Tribute. For a little more than the OP's budget he could get a USA G&L.

What sort of sound are you looking for? How do you play? Do you pop and slap a lot, use a plec, fingerstyle? Motown or Metal?

To be honest, i enjoy playing everything, though i'd tend to lean a little more towards Metal, there's nothing wrong with a bit of motown.. i slap occasionally, my technique isnt that great.. mostly fingers, getting more into using a pick now, though..

Xmusic stock them. There was an A4 there yesterday. I really like Cort at the moment so it would probably be what I would go for. I have never played a G&L before though Rigsby seems to be a big fan of them, it's making me want to try one.

    went to Xmusic today..
The cort was.. alright. It didnt really.. jump out at me?
    Any other suggestions?

And should i consider a fretless? i've only being playing for.. call it 2 years.
i saw a fretless jazz somewhere for like.. 1200.

    Thanks,
