Just interested on guaging where people primarily source their gear from, whether the loyalty to Germany is still there, whether folks have started taken advantage of the weak Sterling or if anyone goes all patriotic and only shops at home.

edit: ModBrewer feel free to edit/add stores I overlooked.

i'd shop at home if the places had the stuff i was looking for. Again today i went looking for something (nothing x-music related btw) and the local dudes didn't have it.
When I impulse buy the internet tends to win.

I've only ever had one negative experience with thomann. I buy a good bit from a pro-audio place in town, but mainly computer related stuff that could go dodgy, or that i might want to return quickly and easily.

Of course, the longest I have been without buying something has been lately when I could be saving a small fortune with the sterling rate.

I'm interested because I've been a loyal Music Store customer for years now, spent a serious amount of dosh thru both business and leisure. I find myself drifting away from them and looking more and more towards UK.

I bought a digital desk few months ago, saved over €500 by going with Studio Care in Liverpool rather than the Germans

All I'm saying is, the world does not end with Thomann people!

COD is defo a plus point. But think about it, you can send money to UK bank accounts in a day or 2 with all the modern techmologically gadgets and t'internet.

When you shop on price alone (who doesnt btw) then UK is where you should be looking in this climate.

Used to be Thomann until my experience over the last few weeks. I've had about 10k of stuff off them over past year & then things went tits up.
Firstly they aren't putting "Ireland" on a lot of their shipping labels at the moment so things are getting as far as UK Hatfield UPS depot & being sent back.. then there's the MOTU 828MKII unit which I've had trouble with audio cutting out with for up to 20secs at a time. The after sales support has been crap considering the price of the unit & the fact I tested it on 4 different systems here to make sure it wasn't a software issue.. They didn't want to know!

So I'm looking for somewhere new!

    dolphinmusic.co.uk mostly.
Got good loads of stuff from them...

Got my electric guitar and accessory stuff from Instrumental (the guys there are probably the best in all music stores in dublin!).
Got my acoustic from Music Maker...

I usually use thomann, got some stuff from GAK and musicstore before when the price was better than thomann.
I also use ebay a good bit, just got a set of audix mics, the DP5a which has a D6,D4, 2 X D2's and an I5 for 325 euro in the states with free shipping, same set is 859 on thomann

Have to say Music Store are very good. I've done a lot of business for them over the last three years, and had very little problems. I've been over in the store in Cologne twice as well. The one thing I will say, is the store is nothing like the catalogue! It is not nearly as large as one might expect.

Was a MusicMaker fan when I started and then the service was..... Moved to MusicStore and I've mainly used them for the last 5 years. Thomann are ok, no tracking and non UPs makes them not so useable for me since I know my UPS delivery guy so well.

Of late MusicStore have screwed up far to many orders, ab out 50% of them in the last year. Mainly picking errors and thats very annoying. But the rep has save me money over the last while.

With the stg the way it is I may be tempted to look else where. Heading to Musicstore in Jan for a look...

Dolphin Music for most stuff, ebay for bargains, and K&M Music in Maynooth for local bits and bobs..

Audio whorehouse and Future music. or is that future sounds? Few bits and pieces from studio solutions. Once from Thomann, took over a month and turned out expensive.

Also bought from the states and Studio care in Liverpool.

I've been using dolphin and GAK a lot more because they are the cheapest due to the sterling but i have to say ive still been buying probably most stuff from thomann because they always have everything they advertise in stock while ive ordered loads of times from dolphin and GAK and been waiting ages for it to arrive and then find out they are waiting for an order which may take a month so end up cancelling and paying the few extra bucks in thomann cause they are more reliable. If its an expensive purchase i would definately buy in the UK.

I just had a look at that site. It's very good. You forgot to mention that it's free delivery on anything over 250.00 Euro.

    Thanks for the info.

Did anyone order anything from www.imuso.co.uk anytime??
Their prices seem to be beating even dolphinmusic.co.uk prices.
The Fender Highway 1 Tele there is only £439.99 which is £30 cheaper than dolphin and is well about €150 cheaper than what X-Music seems to be selling at and about €450 cheaper than what waltons has it up for in their store (what a rip off!!)...
