Thanks for the post. And yes, the old men will be queuing in the cold and dark from six o'clock onwards...

Does anybody know if they do reservations over the phone?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,699 ✭✭✭ThOnda

Read the information on their page. Come first and be served first. No updates on price list during the day.

    Good deals, are you serious?

As a Nikon shooter the only thing on there of interest is the Nikkor 14-24 f2.8 Af-S going for €999 and I bought one new last week up north for about ~€100 more than that.

They have a D700 body ex-demo for €1,995 which is about €100 more than what you can buy it for in Jessops in Newry. What a laugh. To me, it's just to clear out old stock, I wouldn't think for a minute think I was getting any bargains here.

I am tempted, but there would have to be camera, battery, lens(es), filter(s)...
    I should wait few weeks.

Just phoned a work mate of mine re the D90 which is selling for 899
He's heading out for a game of golf instead of heading up from Galway to save €361.00.

One thing I have to say about Bermingham, their customer service is second to none (that's not meant in a positive way).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,843 ✭✭✭Arciphel

i'm sure that 80-200mm f2.8 nikon lens they have listed on their sales list being sold "as is" is the same one they have had there for the last 6 months with the big scratch on the front of it ... buyer beware!

That's some list, clearout for x-mas stock or a forerunner to closing down?

Some good bargains there alright! What are the Metz flashguns like. I have a canon 5D. How would they compare to a 580EX?

    hi,

I was half temted to try and get to Birminghams for this, but figured it would be gone by the time I got there.

can you tell me where you got a 14-24 for around 1100eur? I assume it was new with all packaging and warranty?

I have to pop into town in a few minutes, might as well pop in and see what's left.

That said, I won't be purchasing... the 5D Mk II fund needs all it can get.

It's a brilliant lens and you'll find you want to keep it on the camera.

Heading to Belfast on Tuesday for the 24-70 2.8 thanks to a five figure refund from the taxman with half as much to come for this year!!!!!!

bought some 77mm filters for 1euro...
and was lucky to spot a 1gb cf for 4euro...
1euro for 512 memory card duo for my mobile phone...not bad at all:)

Dropped in briefly this morning. All I was looking for were ND and Graduated ND filters. They had nothing much of interest at all, prices were not that great and it looked like some of the stock was bought in cheap from Jessops when they closed down.

How did it look like that, were they in Jessops bags!

Was in there on saturday and managed to pick up a D700 for €1995- BRAND NEW! Not an ex-demo as you say- dunno where you got that idea! When I claim the VAT back and save on the petrol to Newry it works out cheaper than the Jessops price so your loss is my gain!!! Maybe there are still some bargains to be had in this country after all

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,843 ✭✭✭Arciphel

WOW Frankie D just WOW! BRAND NEW you say....

For someone with just 4 posts in two years you seem to have Bermingham's on the brain my friend!

"Was in there on saturday and managed to pick up a D700 for €1995- BRAND NEW! Not an ex-demo as you say- dunno where you got that idea! Not really - as of today's exchange rate you could have got it in Jessop's for €1,833.50. Maybe they'll refund you the €170 difference?

"Have you tried Bermigham's? I was happy with them on my new purchase and their prices seem to be good"

The price seems good because it looks like you work there.

"I decided to go with Bermighams- as well as the prices being the cheapest I could find in town, the knowledge of the person I was dealing with in their store was out of the top drawer! He knew the camera inside out and was able to advise me about memory cards too- I never knew there was so many different types of CF card(I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to digital which is why I wanted to buy local). The knowledge of the staff member and comfort of knowing (I hope!) that I will get a good after sale service should I need it made me feel like the saving in the price was offset somewhat. Just thought I'd let you know and maybe somebody else might benefit from them"

Ohhh their customer service is reknowned all right ... second to none ;) even, some have said.

"A friend of a friend who is a professional photographer recommended a store called Bermingham Cameras (on the quays i think). Has anyone had dealings with them? I checked their prices and they seem good compared to others around town"

With friends like these, who needs enemas?

    Well spotted Arciphel...
I think we can take any further recommendations from Frankie D as being ever so slightly biased...if he ever does post again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,459 ✭✭✭Dodgykeeper

I was the original poster and from the ad in the Herald I felt that there was good deals to be had, Sadly I spent the day looking for Buggies and did not avail, I have bought most of my camera gear from Berminghams and have found them to be very helpful!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,699 ✭✭✭ThOnda

I really think that amount of posts is very irrelevant information to state somebody's level of knowledge and liability.
Look at me, so many posts and I am still talking sh;te :D
