Putting on more weight during the week

I am going to the gym 5 times a week for the last 3 weeks. I have been trying to eat small meals 5 times a day like people advice that you do. Last week I went to the gym Monday, wednesday, thursday, Friday and Saturday morning. On Saturday I started drinking early and so I didn't really eat much that day and Sunday I started drinking early again and it was the same. By that Sunday evening everyone was saying the weight was falling off me and I checked myself Monday morning I was down to 12 stone. This week I have gone to the gym Monday, Wednesday and Thursday but I checked this morning and I was 12 stone 4. I have been eating the same as last week and doing the same training sessions but I feel more bloated than lets say Monday morning. Is this because I didn't really eat much over the weekend? Is it wise to just eat breakfast and go drinking so you can look slim and fit to go out for the weekend?

my brain hurts! not eating and drinking alcohol will give you temp weight loss as the drink is a diuretic

like I have had my cereal and a chicken wrap for lunch. I might just go the gym later on and then not eat before going out. I am one of these people who bloats up no matter what they eat. I eat a piece of fruit and i bloat up.

yeah that's why i was wondering. I am not stopped eating from Friday to Saturday like. I do eat I am just not eating the 5 small meals a day.

for example this is what I ate last weekend when I felt I was not bloated
    Friday:
    Breakfast - Cereal
    Lunch - Chicken Wrap
    Snack - Banana
Dinner - I had just come back from the gym and was going out so just had a 2 Chicken Goujons

    Saturday:
    Breakfast - Cereal
After That - I went to the gym but then I went to the pub at 12:30 and was there for most of the day so I didn't really have a chance to eat anything else before going out but came home in the early hours and had a sandwich before I went to bed

    Sunday - Cereal
After that - I went to the pub at 12:30 and was there for most of the day so I didn't really have a chance to eat anything else before going out but came home and had a sandwich before I went to bed

Your vanity for a Saturday night is gonna hurt you in the long run.

You shrank because you were pissing all the time from the beer. It dehydrates you.

If you starve yourself then dehydrate yourself every weekend you're gonna lose muscle and your body is gonna start packing on your daily meals during the week as fat.

Cool man thanks for that. So I should try stick to the diet even in the pub and in the long run it will work out the better for me.

    LOL. Seriously?

Don't you realise that alcohol contains calories?

    If I run a 5km in 25 minutes I'll burn around 400 calories.

One pint of beer contains 200 calories at least. So, if you have 6 pints in an evening you will need to run 15km (400 cals x 3) to burn that off.

Jesus that's crap isn't it? I only burn about 600 cals in each gym cardio session. I have tried to give up drinking numerous times because of the trouble it gets me in but it's very hard as my social life is in the pub with the lads now that I am single. Maybe I will try to not drink until the evening rather than going on all day sessions. I have been good in that I haven't had a fizzy drink in about a month and haven't had chocolate or crisps for a few weeks either . But my beer consumption is around the same cause I need to be out socialising to help getover my break up from my g/f of 5 years.

That is without a doubt the best comeback to someone advising dietary change on this board I've ever seen. How ya gonna match that BossArky!

Look man I love beer, I'm no diet nazi. In my experience people who preach abstinence from alcohol and junk food are miserable souls in dire need of a snack box and a few pints. You just have to treat it like a luxury. Drinking all day Saturday and Sunday on a regular basis isn't sustainable but I think you know that.

The message I want to convey is don't starve yourself to try and make room for the extra calories in the beer. It's cutting off your nose to spite your lonely, broken hearted bachelors face.

off topic - drinking dosen't help you "forget" or "get over" stuff. It just puts off the bad thoughts until later. You may as well deal with them in the here and now whilst sober.

Maybe this should be moved to PI?

Ha ha. That's quality. I am not killing myself, I am eating a lot better and feel better. I knew myself that not eating much at the weekend and drinking was probably the reason I was putting on more during the week I just needed someone to tell me that in English. Pissing beer while dehydrated shrinks the muscles was the reason I was looking like I was shedding but that messes me up for during the week. So I will try to still get my chicken breasts inside me at dinner time!

Haha. I am kind of getting over it but I think I need to get myself laid and you can't do that unless you are out socialising

... so.... to sum up..and just so I'm clear..... you are going to continue drinking like a lunatic and increase your food intake at the same time?

Until I get laid.....yes. Ah no I am only a few weeks into this anyway so I am just educating myself on what is the best way to handle myself throughout the week and the weekend. I know I have to cut back on booze anyway. But it's very hard to just stop. I use to drink nearly every night of the week so i have already cut it back to weekends. I just love going out now I am single so I am enjoying it at the moment but know eventually I'll need to cut back. Tonight I'll have 4 pints and 6 bottles. Tomorrow I might not start drinking until 5 or 6 so I will probably have 12 drinks altogether instead of the 20 I can sometimes have on a Saturday

Just eat when you're hungry. If you're on the beer all weekend and don't feel like eating-don't. It won't do you any harm.
People who mention that drink is full of calories are right but I don't think booze puts on the weight in the same way as burgers or the like

Calorie is such a blunt measurement of energy. Yes there is an equation whereby calories can be turned into fat. 1 calorie = the engery needed to raise a litre of water by 1 degree celsius. There is alcohol in beer. That acohol can be burnt and increase the temperatue of a litre of water much more than burning a hamburger - but your body doesn't turn alcohol into fat - it leaves your body through unrinating and it evaporates (through breathing). Certianly the wheat content of it does add and there is the diuretic quality, but I cannot believe 5 pints = 100 hamburgers in adding to your physical weight.

Interesting. Well maybe I will drink more this weekend then! jk. I don't like the idea of muscles shrinking from not eating though as I am building on them too as well as burning fat.

Hi Im new to do this so I dont know everything but from what I have read getting really fit and looking good does not go hand in hand with binge drinking it just doesnt a few glasses of wine at the weekend or a beer or 2 isn't a big deal but what your doing is. Now Im not going to lecture you god knows I love beer but when you want something really bad you have to make some tough choices the beer or getting in shape pick one but dont keep living in denial

Also weightloss and fitness are not the samething either you can lose weight on a crap diet just eat less calories and this is not favourable weightloss you will lose alot of muscle but to get fit(losefat and keep or gain muscle) you need to really control what you put into your mouth

Here's a tip for when you are in the pub all day.

As you are drinking your pint at the bar, start curling the barstool; swap every now and again as you vary the pint from hand to hand, this will exercise your biceps. Then lie on the floor and start benching your drinking buddy as he sits on the stool, this will take care of the chest. When the bar man comes out to you to throw you out, catch him and put him over your shoulders and squat him a few times. Leave the pub, get a bit to eat and move on to the next pub and repeat. This does wonders and I hear it's how Arnie got those muscles!

I would disagree with that. Also when you are boozing you are more inclined to eat crap food. Combine that with your inability to train the next day and hey presto your diet and exercise go to **** and as a result you put on weight

    PS This thread is hilarious

    WTF.

If you want to get in shape, you need to cut out the retarded weekend long binges. You clearly have an alcohol problem.

I don't drink alcohol, I eat very cleanly, and I am able to pack on muscle and maintain a flat stomach. I am far from being a boring person who needs a snackbox! I have a very full and interesting life. :)

Your current lifestyle is not going to help you improve yourself.
