Mysterious leg pain

    Hi, im new to this forum, and ive only returned to athletics in the last few weeks. I got injured about 4-5 weeks ago. My left leg became sore. I've been back to running for the last 2 weeks(before that doing only gym work that put no pressure on the sore area) and the pain has returned.

    My pain is nearly half way up my left leg on the right. If i touch my leg (2 inche from the point of my shin (in the middle of my leg) to the right, then it hurts a little. I ran on the threadmill for about 5minutes at 14km and afterwards it hurt alot. Once i got home and sat down and rested, the pain is virtually gone. It doesnt hurt when i walk, and i can jog slowly. When i jog slowly it hurts a little at first, but then it goes away.

    Does anyone have any ideas what this is, and what should i do?

    Kind of difficult to figure out exactly where you're referring to (half way up your left leg would be somewhere around your knee?), but if its around the shin area, it may be shin-splints, which covers a myriad of potential issues. Shin-splints is a common complaint for people new to running, and is usually caused by ill-fitting runners, running on hard surfaces, or increasing distances too rapidly.

    The only person who can diagnose it properly is a physio, so make an appointment.

    Oh, and if you're new/returning to athletics, then 14km/hr may be excessive.

    sorry, you are right, i ment half way up my lower leg, so at a half way point in the tibia or fibula (dont know which one though)

    how do you know if your runners are a bad fit or not?

    Get them tested in a good shop if you're in Dublin area Amphibianking is about the best if you're down south John Buckley tends to be pretty good.
