Advice on laptop purchase

    Hi all,
I have a budget of about 2000Euro to buy a laptop.

I want it for mainly for work use, not for gaming.

I use MATLAB quite a bit and I'm starting a job that will involve a fair bit of number crunching.

Does anyone have any recommendations for something in and around this price range?
Are there any makes and models I should avoid?

Something not too heavy as I could be doing a fair bit of travelling preferably with dual processor and a decent battery life (>2-3 hours). After that I have no real preferences.
I had a Toshiba Satellite Pro for 5 years and never had a moments bother with it so I was thinking of going with them again.

If anyone has any suggestions they'd be very welcomed.

    Thanks

I think 2000 is WAY overkill for your needs! And i mean way over! You'd be just as happy with a 6/700 machine as you would be with a way over the top 2000 machine. Seriously, unless gaming is a priority, seriously high end machines are generally not required. Especially looking at the system requirements of matlab, which are basic, any Core 2 Duo, 2Gb of Ram machine will more than cover you. And you'd get a machine like that for 600quid.

    Thank for the reply.
    2000Euro is a big budget I agree.
Can you give me any advice on the best type of processor to go for?

I do alot of image processing and tend to leave the computer running for hours at a time.
Are there any laptops with better cooling systems than others?
I know someone with a Sony VAIO and it heats up to the point where it is uncomfortable to sit with the laptop on you knees.

go for some laptop heat vents on the side not bottom.if ye are not up for gaming then look for some solid type machine, usually the business range, stable performance, long hours working suppport.any reasonable price of any brand is ok.go for abit higher price if you want, maybe 800range.

get a link here we will comment on it:D
