I was at Toys For Big Boys last weekend and was kind of disappointed by the drop of airsoft since last year. However there was this one stand where they had a decent number of guns but they wouldn't sell on site for some reason (enlighten me?). I got a card and they're site was Hobbyairsoft.ie. I had never heard of them before but I went to check the site out. It's not huge but lots of what they have is really powerful and really cheap. Plenty of their automatics reach the 1 joule limit or at least get close and almost nothing (if anything at all) comes over 200 Euro. Maybe I'm missing out on something but this seems pretty good. I'm just wondeing if this stuff is legitimate. Anyone have any experience with the site?

as far as i was aware airsoft was banned from the show this year?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,363 ✭✭✭gerrowadat

Apparently not. This one stall appeared there, but wasn't allowed to sell anything due to the gangs of people running around with aegs last year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,758 ✭✭✭Stercus Accidit

Thats true, otherwise our legitimate retailers would have been in attendance.

Not that thats any reflection on whatever this guy is, no brands on any of those aegs, at a guess they seem to be a few quid dearer than elsewhere.

That's what I thought. I would have put these guys down as being just some dodgey group looking to make cash from people who know even less than me about the sport but they have their own website so they must have some commitment:p

Anyone can make a website tbh. Someof the prices are abit weird up there, they're different from the index than on the item listing itself.

Well they have full adress, company and vat numbers on their site, seems like they put some effort in.

    Worth keeping and eye on

Airsoft was dropped by the organisers due to kids running around with cheapo springers and LPEGs sold by disreputable retailers trying to cash in. There was complaints, a series of national moments of hysteria, a number of Maud Flanders impersonators (Lord rest her...) and the eventual "intervention" of Mr Joe Duffy. In other words, the organisers reckoned it was more trouble than it was worth. How this lad slipped in, is a matter of question and not something for discussion here.
Either way, someone copped who they were while booking or when it was too late and they were informed they could not sell, only display.

Just about every decent AEG will hit the 1J mark or be pushing toward it, that's not something that's really surprising. A decent pistol will get you close to the 1J mark.

Being under €200 mean they're clones. How good a clone depends on the brand. Something that's conveniently not displayed. I've seen shops charge 180 for a Cyma MP5 that couldn't hit a barn door from six paces with a tailwind. Claiming 1J is easy when you're not giving the manufacturer specs too. Caveat Emptor.
By the looks of it though, it's mainly Cybergun. The M4's could be DBoys but they'd be rather overpriced if they were, I also find it odd that he'd use images of the rifles with accessories attached and then just claim they don't come with them. Surely it would have been more professional to just get photos of them in stock forms.

Either way, I'm reserving judgement until I hear a contact from the IAA. Even the tagline saying "Licensed softair" is off putting considering there is no licence. Anyone can stick a website together that looks professional and has glossy images.

it also had on it the other day,
"Irelands only fully licensed Airsoft gun dealer" or something to that effect. and some bull sh*te about all their guns being licence from the real firearm manufacturer,.,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,458 ✭✭✭✭gandalf

I talked to this guy at the show and they are legit and are aware of the 1j rule etc. I have passed his details onto the IAA lads so they can make contact with him. They are Cyberguns distributor for Ireland apparently and supply the gadget shops. The strange thing is I had never heard of them until I saw them at the show. Most of their stand was remote controlled models with one display cabinet with a few GBB's in them. They did have a boxed Cybergun AK47 under the counter as well.

This is exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about. Those are bog standard, non sealing safety glasses you'd find in a hardware store. I don't even trust those when using a drill, let alone being fired at with bb's, but they're there as airsoft goggles? These ones don't seal either, and they look awfully like the cheapo ones you find thrown into plinker boxes.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,401 ✭✭✭Shiva

    Their guns are Cybergun.

The website is an offshoot of iwantone.ie, which is one of the gadget shops - either DW2 in Cork or the one in The Square, Tallaght - I cant remember which.

They contacted me some time ago as the official Irish Cybergun distributor, looking to sell me some gear.

I just noticed that at the bottom of the page. He has FAMAS, Galil and Tavor-21 listed among the manufacturers.

So long as they are legit and operate within limits, good luck to them. Regardless of how amusing it is. If the IAA is happy with them, that#s good enough for me.

They do what I hate and don't list the manafacturer in the stats of the various pieces. Jesus, that pisses me off no end......

If their stuff is cybergun I'll be staying well clear. I had a look at cybergun stuff when I was in Paris earlier this year and the quality was very poor.

Probably been said already - but I see they have a shop in the Kildare Village Outlet - just opened this week...

I'll have a look and check em out.

So the moral of the story is that I don't buy these because they're clones?

You know I just had a feeling about that...asked the lads in irc, but they wern't too sure. As I said, stick to what you know.

nothing wrong with clones in my opinion.

I have a number of clones which rock (galaxy, dboys, JG etc...)
That said there are some really low-cost, low-quality clones which should be probably avoided.

Do your research before you buy. :) And ask as many people as you can before you spend. I'm sure there are plenty of people here who would be only to happy to help out and gve some guidance.

Only word of advice I would have is - if you are going to buy clones - get them from somewhere that can give you a good backup like Eirsoft etc.

Nah clones are alright., but some of them look to be over priced clones.,

I would have preferred to see more babes and fewer remote controlled helicopters myself.

T4BB was a waste of time really. I doubt I'll be going again, unless they start enforcing an over-18 policy. Even the Chieftain was unrecognizable :(

Back on topic for a second, it was quite noticeable that all the interest on both of the stands which had airsoft stuff was in those closed cabinets.

Cybergun do LPEGs too, which are awful pieces of crap, but in no way a reflection of their proper AEGs. They actually have some good stuff. Their AK's are one of the better clone AK's you can pick up.

Most Cybergun stuff is cheap muck - they aim squarely at the lower end of the market.

However, they have a small selection of rebranded stuff thats really Cyma, Jing Gong, A&K and the better clone makers. Stupid prices mind you...

I was given their pricelist awhile back, and the wholesale prices they want for the JG, Cyma and other decent stuff is more than I sell them for :) It works out cheaper for me to buy the few pieces I carry from Italy, rather than the Irish distributor. And that includes the cost of getting them here.

Head Hunter: Airsoft is called Cybergun in france, may not have been the brand.

Cybergun the actual brand "re-brand" JG Sig552s, Tony has them, thus the transparent mag.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 683 ✭✭✭Head_Hunter

The FAMAS I was looking at in their shop must have been one of the bad cybergun products. It was mostly made from plastic and felt very loose, like it had been skirmished for over a decade! It was on sale for €180, down from €220 .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 897 ✭✭✭tonky

Those trades look like proper engraved ones, not your usual white paint job.
    Worth checking out.

The National Match 1911 is actually a spring pistol. I know because it was one of my first a good few years back. :)
    Lasted a fair while too.

Id much rather have decent quality kit at decent prices than have a fancy glitzy website., :) from what ive seen of most taurus pistols they are a load cr*p and this site seems to do a lot of them.,

The site does look purdy. But there is no mention of who manufactures these airsoft guns. I really like to know exactly what Im getting before I buy anything online.

Also I find it a bit suspect when someone registers just to give a particular organization a glowing review.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

Last Taurus I held I actually thought was a springer it felt so light and flimsy.
I actually found the website a bit pants, it looks glossy but it also looks unfinished and unsorted. The M4 images aren't actually of what you get and the AK images are of boxes. There's a few images attached to the wrong item like a 1911 listing with a Desert Eagle picture, but I'd forgive that as a simple mistake.
I know by looking at them that they're all Cybergun units but they should place that information up there for people who don't know. Actually, they should place information about it in the first place. All it gives is weight, length, mag capacity and power, wouldn't be hard to put up the battery type it takes or the material type (metal or plastic).

if it's where we think - Crookstown, then it's on the road between Kilcullen and Castledermot (main Carlow road from the big smoke:p)

About 3 or 4 miles after Kilcullen (which is bypassed), you come to a Texaco service station on the right and it should be in behind it (there is a small retail unit/designer outlet there afaik).

It the only Texaco station on the road and if you get to Castledermot you've passed it.;) It should be really easy to get to - there's not much else on the road.

    Hope this helps.

Jeees, 3:30 in the flippin morning - babies eh! (now gotta make bottles...:D)
